- The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating Human Resources, Employment Relations, and Employment Equity initiatives across the business, ensuring legal compliance, effective people management practices, and high-quality HR service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Selection
- Develop and manage recruitment processes and service standards.
- Partner with Heads of Department HODs on hiring requirements.
- Participate in management-level interviews.
- Provide recruitment consultation, particularly for external candidates.
- Monitor recruitment turnaround times.
Employment Equity EE
- Establish and support the EE/Skills Development Forum.
- Ensure compliance with Employment Equity legislation and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate EE meetings, initiatives, and diversity programs.
- Track monthly EE progress and drive achievement of EE targets.
- Oversee EE planning and timely submission of statutory reports.
Absenteeism Management
- Implement systems to monitor absenteeism.
- Support managers in identifying and addressing frequent absenteeism.
Organisational Change & Consultation
- Advise management on organisational restructuring and change processes.
- Prepare consultation documentation and ensure legal compliance.
- Facilitate and support employee consultations.
HR & Industrial Relations Strategy
- Develop HR policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Drive HR departmental performance and accountability.
- Formulate IR strategies aligned with legislation and business requirements.
- Define HR roles and responsibilities and communicate them to stakeholders.
- Establish service level agreements SLAs for HR services and communication.
HR Service Delivery & Compliance
- Maintain positive employee relations and identify workplace concerns.
- Ensure accessibility and visibility of HR policies and procedures.
- Manage external HR service providers.
- Promote understanding of employee rights and IR processes.
- Maintain compliance with labour legislation and best practice.
- Review employment contracts, policies, procedures, and disciplinary frameworks.
- Conduct exit interviews, analyse trends, and recommend improvements.
- Ensure all HR reports are completed accurately and on time.
Industrial Relations IR
- Provide guidance and support to management on employee relations matters.
- Conduct IR-related training where required.
- Manage disciplinary, grievance, performance, incapacity, and ill-health processes.
- Review and update IR procedures and documentation.
- Liaise with legal advisors when necessary.
Exit Management
- Oversee and maintain the employee exit process.
- Ensure exit interviews are conducted and analysed.
- Escalate concerns and support investigations where required.
Employee Wellness
- Manage Injury on Duty IOD cases and related processes.
Incapacity & Performance Management
- Develop policies and procedures for performance and incapacity management.
- Ensure all documentation is completed and properly filed.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure performance feedback processes are followed
