HI-UB Truck Operator Mining

  • The HI-UB Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a HI-UB truck to transport personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies across the mining operation.
  • The incumbent must ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act MHSA, company procedures, and operational requirements while maintaining high standards of safety, productivity, and equipment care.
  • Duties are similar to those of heavy vehicle and mine haulage operators, with an emphasis on safe operation, pre-use inspections, and adherence to mine traffic procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 Matric or equivalent.
  • Valid Code 14 EC driver's licence with a valid PrDP.
  • Valid HI-UB Truck Operator Certificate/Licence.
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience operating a HI-UB truck within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Medically fit and able to obtain a Certificate of Fitness.
  • Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act MHSA regulations.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the HI-UB truck safely in accordance with company procedures and mine traffic rules.
  • Transport mining equipment, materials, consumables, tools, and personnel to designated areas.
  • Conduct daily pre-start, operational, and post-shift inspections of the vehicle.
  • Complete vehicle inspection checklists and report defects or breakdowns immediately.
  • Ensure loads are correctly secured and transported safely.
  • Perform basic vehicle care, including cleaning, refuelling, and checking oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, and tyre condition.
  • Follow dispatch instructions and planned haulage routes.
  • Comply with all Mine Health and Safety Act MHSA requirements, risk assessments, and safe work procedures.
  • Maintain accurate trip sheets, logbooks, and inspection records.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch, and other operators via two-way radio.
  • Assist with loading and unloading where required.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and emergency drills.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards around the vehicle and work areas.
  • Report hazards, near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Support production targets while prioritising safety at all times.
