- To support the effective implementation and maintenance of Health, Safety and Environmental HSE standards at the facility, ensuring compliance with company policies, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements, and applicable legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and report on daily, weekly and monthly HSE activities, including incidents, near misses, safety findings, PPE and housekeeping.
- Conduct and assist with HSE, departmental and contractor audits, including follow-up on corrective actions.
- Conduct risk assessments and participate in FMEA reviews.
- Investigate incidents, identify root causes and assist with corrective and preventative actions.
- Promote HSE awareness through inductions, toolbox talks, safety conversations and employee training.
- Maintain and support the site's ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Monitor environmental compliance and respond to environmental incidents in line with the site EMPr.
- Maintain compliance with applicable HSE legislation, including OSHA, GSR, NEMA, NEMAQA and NEMWA.
- Participate in daily plant meetings and HSE review meetings.
- Monitor housekeeping and general HSE standards across the facility.
- Provide HSE support to management and employees as required.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' HSE experience, preferably within a chemical, automotive, industrial or construction environment.
- Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management or Environmental Management, or SAMTRAC/NEBOSH.
- ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 experience/qualification advantageous.
- Experience in auditing, risk assessments and incident investigation.
- Good knowledge of South African HSE legislation.
- Strong report writing, communication and presentation skills.
- Good analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of working at heights, chemical management and confined spaces advantageous.
