- This 130-year-old school is looking to fill the following school-employed position from 1 January 2027: Head of the Student Development Unit
- Usual working hours are Monday to Friday, 07:40 to 16:40 during term time with rotational cover until 17:00, and with reduced hours during school holidays based on workload. The successful candidate will also be required to be available after school from time to time for parent or learner meetings, and occasionally in the evening for school meetings or disciplinary hearings.
Duties and Responsibilities This full-time position includes responsibility for the following:
- Leading and managing the school's Student Development Unit SDU.
- Overseeing the provision of holistic therapeutic and psychosocial support services to learners and their families.
- Providing counselling, monitoring, and support for learners, including at-risk learners.
- Managing learner support records while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with data protection requirements.
- Supporting educators in identifying and assisting learners with barriers to learning, while coordinating academic support interventions, peer tutoring, and examination concessions.
- Offering careers counselling and coordinating careers and further study information and events.
- Liaising with parents, external professionals, service providers, etc.
Minimum Requirements The successful candidate will have the following:
- An appropriate professional qualification in psychology or counselling is essential.
- Registration with the relevant professional body, where applicable, is essential.
- Experience in a school environment will be a distinct advantage.
- Experience in counselling, therapeutic support, or psychosocial services including psychometric testing for female adolescents will be a distinct advantage.
- Strong leadership, organisational, administrative, and communication skills.
- Sound knowledge of learner support systems, safeguarding, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
- The ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and compassion.
- A positive, approachable, and professional manner.
