Introduction

Tshikwalo Lodge is looking for a hands-on and dependable Head of Security to lead a small security team and protect our guests, employees, property and vehicles.

This is an operational leadership position. The successful candidate will manage the lodge’s security systems while also working scheduled security shifts. The role requires a calm, alert and professional individual who can take control during emergencies and interact respectfully with guests.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruit, supervise and schedule a three-person security team.
  • Maintain effective 24-hour security coverage and shift handovers.
  • Establish and monitor day and night patrol routes.
  • Manage access control for guests, employees, contractors, suppliers and vehicles.
  • Conduct regular patrols of guest areas, accommodation, parking areas, buildings and the lodge perimeter.
  • Monitor the electric fence and report damage, faults or security breaches.
  • Respond to theft, break-ins, suspicious activity, medical emergencies, fires and other incidents.
  • Develop and implement security, evacuation and emergency-response procedures.
  • Conduct end-of-day checks and ensure doors, gates, windows, kitchens and function areas are safely secured.
  • Manage lodge keys, vehicle keys and vehicle movement registers.
  • Monitor lodge vehicle condition, logbooks, service intervals and maintenance requirements.
  • Assist guests with urgent after-hours requests and emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate patrol, visitor, incident, key and inspection registers.
  • Report serious incidents immediately and submit a monthly security report to management.
  • Perform normal day or night security duties as part of the security team.

Desired Experience & Qualification

The ideal candidate will

  • Have previous experience leading a security team, preferably at a lodge, hotel, resort or similar property.
  • Be willing to work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
  • Be reliable, punctual and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Be professional and guest-focused.
  • Have excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • Be capable of responding decisively to emergencies and security risks.
  • Hold valid PSIRA registration and a valid driver’s licence.
  • Be trustworthy, discreet and comfortable taking full ownership of the lodge’s security function.
