The ideal candidate will have 10–15 years of progressive procurement and supply chain experience, including at least 5 years at senior management or executive level, together with a relevant tertiary qualification. Proven experience managing regional procurement portfolios across Sub-Saharan Africa and delivering procurement transformation programmes within decentralized corporate structures is essential. Experience with bonded warehouses will be advantageous. Tertiary qualification in a relevant field. Proven track record of managing multi-market or regional procurement portfolios, specifically across Sub-Saharan Africa. Demonstrable success in implementing corporate procurement transformation programmes within decentralized corporate structures. Experience working with bonded warehouses will be advantageous. DUTIES: Strategic Procurement: Develop and implement overarching procurement strategies that directly support and advance group-wide organisational objectives. Source, benchmark, and evaluate local and international suppliers to ensure a resilient, dual-sourced supply network across African markets. Lead negotiations on pricing, commercial terms, and Master Service Agreements (MSAs) to leverage economies of scale. Conduct continuous market analysis and supplier benchmarking to identify opportunities for structural cost reduction and value optimization. Develop alternative sourcing strategies to minimize cross-border supply risks, currency exposure, and geopolitical disruptions. Purchasing Operations & Administration: Review high-value purchase requisitions and ensure competitive, multi-source quotations are obtained. Enforce strict compliance with procurement procedures, approval limits, and corporate governance frameworks. Oversee the preparation, issuance, and expediting of purchase orders, proactively resolving systemic delivery issues and communicating delays to the executive team. Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier databases, and contract repositories. Lead procurement audits and ensure complete and up-to-date compliance documentation. Supplier Relationship Management: Develop and maintain productive, long-term relationships with key regional and international suppliers. Establish clear supplier KPIs and conduct regular performance reviews, focusing on quality, pricing, and service levels. Professionally resolve complex supplier disputes and maintain objective supplier performance scorecards. Inventory, Supply & Technical Coordination: Monitor group-wide inventory levels, coordinate replenishment schedules, and support advanced inventory optimization initiatives to protect working capital. Collaborate closely with Engineering and Operations to verify complex technical specifications prior to procurement. Oversee the procurement of specialized engineering equipment, maintenance spares (MRO), technical consumables, and specialized contracted services. Recommend suitable technical alternatives where appropriate to optimize cost, quality, and availability. Logistics Coordination & Cross-Border Trade: Coordinate complex inbound and outbound logistics activities for regional imports and exports across African borders. Liaise with freight forwarders, transport providers, and customs couriers to monitor shipment progress and expedite import and export documentation. Manage international shipping requirements, customs clearance processes, and regional trade agreements, including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), to ensure goods arrive on schedule. Key Account & Commercial Coordination: Coordinate procurement and end-to-end supply chain activities for strategic Tier-1 customers and major international accounts. Monitor cargo movements, import and export orders, and delivery milestones from order placement through to final destination. Proactively escalate delays and supply challenges to safeguard key customer relationships. Prepare accurate commercial quotations and support corporate sales activities for strategic customer accounts. Maintain agreed customer pricing schedules, lead budgetary pricing reviews, and work closely with Finance and Sales to ensure pricing accuracy, commercial compliance, and margin protection. Commercial & Financial Management: Ensure all group procurement activities remain within approved corporate budgets. Prepare executive procurement reports and monitor Purchase Price Variance (PPV). Support corporate budgeting and forecasting processes. Identify and implement opportunities for cost savings and improved procurement value. Stakeholder Management: Work closely with Finance: to ensure budgetary alignment, cash-flow management, margin protection, and PPV analysis. Collaborate with Operations and Production: to ensure continuity of supply and operational efficiency. Partner with Engineering and Maintenance: on technical asset procurement and MRO requirements. Coordinate with Warehouse and Logistics: to ensure stock availability and efficient cross-border transportation. Work with Sales: to align strategic customer quotations, pricing structures, and lead times. Liaise with Quality Assurance: to ensure all inbound materials meet required regulatory and corporate quality standards. Performance & Governance: Drive supplier on-time delivery, inventory availability, and the minimization of stockouts. Deliver measurable cost savings and optimize Purchase Price Variance (PPV). Improve procurement cycle times, purchase order accuracy, and supplier lead times. Ensure full procurement compliance across internal and external audits. Maintain accurate and up-to-date supplier performance ratings. Monitor stakeholder satisfaction across Operations, Engineering, Sales, and other key internal functions. Ensure delivery performance and service levels consistently meet the requirements of strategic customer accounts.
