Key performance areas

  • Lead the academic strategy and school improvement priorities for Grades 8–12.
  • Drive measurable improvement in learner achievement, promotion rates and NSC outcomes.
  • Ensure effective implementation of CAPS, curriculum coverage, assessment, moderation and academic reporting.
  • Establish consistently high standards of teaching and learning across all subjects.
  • Lead lesson observations, learning walks, instructional coaching and professional development.
  • Use learner, class and subject performance data to identify priorities and direct intervention.
  • Lead and hold Phase Heads, Subject Heads, Grade Heads and other designated school leaders accountable for performance.
  • Develop the leadership capacity and professional practice of staff.
  • Coordinate the academic, behavioural, pastoral and operational leadership of the high school.
  • Promote a calm, disciplined, inclusive and aspirational school culture.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence and build productive relationships with learners, staff and parents.
  • Contribute to staffing, performance management, resource allocation and strategic planning.
  • Serve as a senior member of the School Leadership Team and act on behalf of the Executive Head when formally delegated.

Qualifications, experience and skills

  • A recognised professional teaching qualification.
  • Current SACE registration.
  • Substantial successful teaching experience at high-school level.
  • At least five years of increasing educational leadership responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of CAPS, NSC assessment and secondary-school academic requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in improving teaching quality and learner outcomes.
  • Experience in leading and developing teachers and middle leaders.
  • The ability to interpret academic data and translate it into focused improvement actions.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The confidence and professional judgement to address underperformance and make difficult decisions fairly.
  • Previous experience as a Head or Deputy Head of High School, a relevant postgraduate qualification and experience within a large or improving school will be advantageous.
