Role Qualification Requirements To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong academic foundation in a relevant discipline and a passion for leveraging data as a strategic business asset. You will hold an NQF Level 8 qualification in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Informatics, Business Analytics, Engineering, Health Informatics or a related field. A postgraduate qualification at NQF Level 9 would be advantageous, particularly where it demonstrates advanced expertise in technology, analytics or business leadership. Formal leadership or management qualifications will also be beneficial, reflecting your ability to lead high-performing teams and inspire others towards shared objectives. Professional certifications in areas such as data management, data governance, business intelligence, data warehousing, cloud data platforms, data science, artificial intelligence, information security, privacy, governance or project management will strengthen your profile. While not essential, these qualifications will demonstrate your commitment to continuous development and keeping pace with an evolving data landscape. Most importantly, you will bring a learning mindset and a genuine enthusiasm for building capabilities that support both organisational success and individual growth. You will have extensive experience of 10 years or more , working across multiple areas of data and analytics, including data warehousing, business intelligence, analytics, data engineering, data integration, data management and data science. Your career journey will demonstrate a deep understanding of how data can be used to create value, solve complex business challenges and support strategic decision-making. You will also have substantial experience of at least five years leading teams, functions or divisions within a complex organisational environment. As an established leader, you will be comfortable defining strategic direction, fostering collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups and creating clarity in environments that require both innovation and operational excellence. Experience within healthcare, pathology or similarly regulated environments will be advantageous, enabling you to understand the importance of data governance, confidentiality, quality and trust. Equally important will be your ability to balance strategic thinking with practical execution, ensuring that data initiatives translate into meaningful outcomes for the organisation. Your leadership experience should reflect a commitment to developing people, empowering teams and creating an environment where performance, engagement and growth are encouraged and supported. Role Skills Requirements This role calls for a leader who combines technical expertise with commercial awareness, strategic insight and exceptional people leadership skills. You will possess a strong understanding of data and analytics strategy, data architecture, data modelling, data warehousing, business intelligence, reporting, data engineering and modern data platforms. You will be comfortable leading conversations around data governance, data quality, metadata management, analytics adoption and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. Your ability to translate complex technical concepts into meaningful business conversations will be essential. You will have a talent for building trusted relationships with stakeholders, helping leaders understand how data can support decision-making, improve outcomes and enable organisational transformation. You will be recognised for your ability to foster collaboration across technology, operations and business functions, bringing together diverse perspectives to solve problems and drive innovation. Your leadership style will inspire confidence, accountability and ownership, while creating opportunities for others to contribute, develop and succeed. Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills will enable you to champion a culture of evidence-based decision-making, data literacy and continuous improvement. You will also demonstrate sound judgement in balancing innovation with governance, ensuring that data remains secure, ethical and aligned with organisational priorities. Above all, you will be passionate about developing people and building a capability that is not only technically strong but also adaptable, future-focused and committed to excellence.
