The Head: Internship Academy is a senior leadership role responsible for the end-to-end design, delivery, commercial performance, and quality of The Company’s suite of accredited internship programmes. The Workplace Readiness Internship Programme is the Academy’s flagship programme, and this role is built with the explicit expectation of growing the Academy into multiple internship tracks spanning different sectors, skill sets, and learner profiles. This person will build the division from an operational blueprint into a running, scalable, and commercially successful training business.
This is not a pure training or facilitation role. It is a hybrid of programme director, operations leader, and commercial manager — requiring someone who can equally sit in a client boardroom discussing BEE scorecard compliance, design a new internship programme from a curriculum brief, manage a team of facilitators and administrators, and interrogate a training budget and forecast across multiple concurrent programmes.
The successful candidate will be self-directed, tech-forward, and deeply comfortable with complexity and scale. They will report directly to the Directors of The Company.
Duties & Responsibilities
Programme Leadership and Delivery
- Design, implement, and continuously improve the systems, processes, and frameworks that enable the team to deliver all active The Company Internship Academy programmes to a consistently high standard — beginning with the Workplace Readiness Internship Programme as the flagship
- Manage the full learner lifecycle — from recruitment and onboarding through to assessment, certification, and alumni
- Ensure all programme delivery meets QCTO accreditation requirements and the Category B standards of the BEE Codes of Good Practice
- Oversee quality of learning content, facilitation, and learner experience across all modules
- Drive continuous improvement of the programme based on learner feedback, assessment outcomes, and industry developments
Commercial and Business Development
- Develop and manage relationships with corporate sponsors and employer clients who fund intern placements
- Contribute to pricing, proposal development, and commercial terms for new clients
- Monitor programme profitability against budget; identify efficiency opportunities and revenue growth levers
- Support the Directors in positioning the programme in the market and responding to client enquiries about Category B compliance
- Identify opportunities to scale the programme — additional cohorts, new sectors, or extended module offerings
Team Management
- Lead and manage the programme team: trainer/assessor, course administrator, recruiter, hosting manager, and moderator
- Set clear performance standards, conduct regular check-ins, and develop team capability
- Build a team culture that is learner-centric, accountability-driven, and results-oriented
- Scale team resources appropriately as cohort volume grows
Compliance, Administration, and Reporting
- Ensure full compliance with QCTO accreditation requirements, SETA processes, and BEE Skills Development Scorecard obligations
- Oversee all programme administration: learner registration, logbook management, portfolio of evidence, assessments, and certification
- Maintain accurate records for SETA reporting, employer sign-off, and audit purposes
- Prepare regular management reports on cohort performance, financial results, and programme quality
- Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) and all tech platforms used in programme delivery
Technology and Innovation
- Champion the use of AI and digital tools across programme operations — from learner recruitment and communication to project management, content development, and assessment
- Identify and implement technology solutions that increase operational efficiency and learner engagement
- Ensure the AI and digital fluency components of the programme curriculum remain current and practically useful
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Minimum 7 years of experience in training, learning and development, or a related operational role — the core of this person’s career must be in the training and education space
- Proven experience managing an accredited training programme — including QCTO, SETA, or equivalent regulatory processes
- Working knowledge of the BEE Codes of Good Practice, specifically the Skills Development scorecard and Learning Programme Matrix — sufficient to engage credibly with clients and ensure programme compliance (deep BEE advisory expertise is not required)
- Proven operational leadership: comfortable building and managing processes, systems, and teams in a high-volume, multi-cohort training environment where administrative rigour and execution quality are non-negotiable
- Solid commercial acumen: able to read a budget, track programme profitability, and engage clients on programme value — without needing to be a financial specialist
- Strong project management capability: experienced at managing multiple concurrent workstreams, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously without dropping detail
- Relevant tertiary qualification — minimum Bachelor's degree (NQF 7); a qualification in Education, Human Resources, Business, or a related field is preferred
Strongly Preferred Experience
- Experience developing or overseeing the development of learning materials, learning outcomes, logbooks, and assessment tools — either independently or in collaboration with external content providers and subject matter experts
- Experience translating a curriculum brief or unit standard into structured, engaging training materials suitable for online and blended delivery
- Familiarity with QCTO-accredited Skills Programmes, the Certificate of Competence framework, and SETA submission and reporting processes
- Experience working with corporate clients in a B2B training or professional services context
- Hands-on experience building or scaling a training programme or business unit from the ground up — managing the full lifecycle from design through delivery to reporting
Technology and Digital Proficiency
- Proficient in Learning Management Systems (LMS) — experience with platforms such as Moodle, Canvas, TalentLMS, or similar
- Comfortable with project management tools: Asana, Notion, Monday.com, or equivalent
- Active user of AI productivity tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) — able to model this behaviour for the team and learners
- Strong command of Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and digital communication platforms
- Ability to evaluate, adopt, and train others on new technology solutions quickly
