Trainee Farm Manager
Role Overview
Goldi, one of South Africa's leading integrated poultry producers within the Astral Group, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Farm Manager (Breeders). This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop practical and leadership skills within Breeder Rearing and Laying operations. You will work closely with the Production Manager and experienced Farm Managers to gain comprehensive exposure to breeder farm management while ensuring compliance with company standards, biosecurity protocols and operational excellence.
Role Responsibilities
- The role will report to the Production Manager;
- Assist in the day-to-day management of Breeder Rearing and Laying farm operations;
- Provide relief for Breeder Farm Managers when required;
- Supervise and support farm employees to ensure productivity and adherence to company standards;
- Conduct daily employee training to promote operational excellence, safe working practices and continuous development;
- Audit and maintain farm biosecurity standards in accordance with company policies and industry best practices;
- Monitor bird health, welfare and performance, reporting any deviations and implementing corrective actions where required;
- Assist in achieving breeder farm production, quality and biosecurity standard;
- Assist with production planning, flock management and routine farm administration;
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of the 20 Keys Operational Improvement Programme;
- Ensure high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness are maintained throughout the farm;
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental and Animal Welfare requirements in accordance with relevant legislation and Astral Standard Operating Practices;
- Maintain accurate production records and assist with performance monitoring, reporting and corrective actions where required;
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to maximize production efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of bird welfare and biosecurity;
- Work effectively within a team environment while demonstrating initiative, accountability and a proactive approach to problem-solving;
- Be available to work weekends and public holidays as operational requirements dictate.
Required Qualification and Knowledge
- B.Sc. Agriculture Degree or Diploma in Agriculture;
- Passion for poultry production and breeder farm management;
- Strong leadership potential with excellent people management and communication skills;
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and within a team;
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office and Outlook) will be an added advantage;
- Valid driver’s license;
- High standards towards housekeeping with strong attention to detail;
- Passion for implementing the 20 Keys Operational Improvement Programme;
- Understanding of biosecurity principles and animal welfare practices;
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing operational requirements.
