Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • A Relevant Technical Tertiary Qualification in GIS
  • 5 – 8 year's relevant post qualifying experience required
  • Registration with SAGC as GISc Technician or Technologist Provide proof of Registration or proof of submission from Geometrics Council
  • Proficiency in ESRI products, including ArcGIS Online
  • Experience in Spatial Data Management and Cadastral Maintenance
  • Experience in the User Management of a Financial System is key
  • Must be in possession of a Valid Driver's License
  • Knowledge and awareness of legal compliance relating to the field of GIS
  • Surveying knowledge
  • Computer literacy: MS Office
  • Proficiency in English and, at least, one other local Western Cape Language

Key Performance Areas

  • Provide technical oversight and develop standards for Geospatial data and applications for Knysna Municipality
  • Provide services associated with the generation of various reports from the GIS system ranging in complexity for external and internal stakeholders
  • Sourcing, interrogating and verification of the spatial database database that is optimized to store and query data related to objects in space, including points, lines and polygons in accordance with relevant legislative requirements
  • Compile, review and implement GIS policies and procedures
  • Coordinating GIS related projects and Supply Chain processes
  • Log and track all GIS related queries
  • Liaise with GIS Service Provider
  • Train GIS users
  • Support GIS within the Municipality.
  • User Management of the Financial System
  • Assist with Help Desk functions in the ICT department
