Are you a proven operational leader with extensive mineral processing experience looking for your next challenge? We are currently recruiting on behalf of an industry leader for a senior, site-based General Manager – Processing Plant to lead the complete operational management of a remote metallurgical processing facility in Africa.
This high-impact role requires an adaptive, resilient leader who can drive safety, production, maintenance, and client relations while optimizing plant performance in a challenging, remote environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
- Executive Leadership: Provide overall leadership for the processing plant, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and operational excellence.
- Production & Optimization: Drive plant availability, utilization, and metallurgical performance to achieve strict production targets.
- Maintenance & Reliability: Oversee maintenance planning and execution to maximize equipment reliability and plant uptime.
- Financial & Commercial Management: Manage operational budgets, implement cost controls, and coordinate procurement for consumables and critical spares.
- Stakeholder & Client Relations: Act as the senior representative on-site, building positive client relationships and delivering clear KPI and operational reports.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements across all plant operations.
Desired Experience & Qualification
What We’re Looking For
- Education: Degree or Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in mineral processing operations, with proven success managing large-scale plants as a Plant Manager, Production Manager, or General Manager.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of plant optimization, maintenance planning, and production strategy.
- Specialized Experience: Hands-on experience in commissioning, operating, or optimizing diamond, Dense Media Separation (DMS), or hard-rock mineral processing plants is highly advantageous.
- Adaptability & Resilience: Proven track record of living and working internationally in remote, rural mining environments with limited amenities.
- Requirements: Fluency in English, a valid passport, willingness to work internationally, medical fitness for remote site work, and police clearance.
Working Conditions
- Work Pattern: Remote site-based role on a 2 months on / 2 weeks off rotation.
- Environment: Rural mining environment requiring high emotional maturity, cultural adaptability, and resilience.
