We’re looking for the kind of General Manager who knows the regulars, remembers what they drink, notices when the music is too loud and can run a tight operation without making the place feel corporate.
This is an opportunity to take the lead at an established, intimate hospitality venue in Hout Bay with a strong local following and a growing focus on wine.
We need someone who is warm, confident and genuinely enjoys being on the floor. Someone who can create that familiar “local” feel customers come back for, while still keeping staff, stock, service and the numbers under control. The role is very much about becoming the face of the venue.
Wine is becoming a bigger part of the business, with a dedicated wine cellar, wine club and regular wine-focused events, so a keen interest in wine is important. You don’t need to be a sommelier, but you should be comfortable talking about wine and keen to grow your knowledge.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading front-of-house and hosting guests
- Building relationships with regular and local customers
- Managing and rostering the team
- Overseeing cash-ups, POS, stock and day-to-day operations
- Maintaining the look, feel and atmosphere of the venue
- Supporting the wine club, tastings and wine events
- Managing private functions and special events
- Looking for ways to grow repeat trade and revenue
What we’re looking for
- 3–5+ years’ hospitality experience
- Previous management experience in a restaurant, wine bar, boutique hotel, wine estate or similar venue
- Strong front-of-house and people-management skills
- POS and stock-control experience
- A naturally friendly and engaging personality
- Genuine interest in or knowledge of wine
- Strong attention to detail
- Hout Bay residency or strong knowledge of the area would be a bonus
The package
R30,000 – R35,000 per month
This is a 6-day-a-week role , with the successful candidate managing their own roster.
Location: Hout Bay, Cape Town
