Our client, a well-established organisation operating across multiple industrial sites, is seeking a senior Health and Safety professional to lead its safety and risk strategy at Group level.
This executive-level position requires an experienced leader who can influence operational performance, strengthen the organisation’s safety culture and ensure consistent compliance across geographically dispersed operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Shape and lead the organisation’s Group-wide Health and Safety strategy
- Advise executive management and operational leadership on safety, health and business risk
- Establish and maintain a consistent safety management framework across all operations
- Integrate health, safety and risk considerations into strategic and operational decision-making
- Support new projects and operations with specialist risk assessments and safety guidance
- Monitor compliance with legislation, regulatory requirements and internal standards
- Keep the business informed of legislative changes and their potential operational impact
- Develop and periodically review safety policies, procedures and operational controls
- Evaluate safety data to identify trends, recurring risks and improvement opportunities
- Present meaningful safety performance reports and recommendations to senior leadership
- Coordinate corrective and preventative actions across the business
- Improve workforce participation, leadership accountability and overall safety culture
- Monitor the delivery and performance of occupational health and hygiene services
- Provide functional direction to site-based Health and Safety teams
- Coach and develop safety professionals through mentoring and knowledge-sharing
- Promote the implementation of relevant industry safety initiatives and leading practices
- Maintain constructive relationships with regulators, consultants and industry stakeholders
- Work closely with operational and support departments to improve safety outcomes
- Manage direct reports and functional teams against agreed objectives and performance measures
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Diploma or relevant tertiary qualification in Safety Management, Mining, Engineering or a related discipline
- At least 10 years’ senior Safety Management experience within mining or a comparable heavy-industrial environment
- SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC or an equivalent recognised safety qualification
- COMSOC 1 and COMSOC 2
- Valid Code 08/EB driver’s licence
- Practical experience developing and managing enterprise-wide safety and risk programmes
- Comprehensive understanding of mining, construction and occupational health and safety legislation
- Working knowledge of recognised SHE and risk management standards, including ISO 45001
- Experience leading safety functions across multiple operational sites
- Excellent English communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong strategic planning, analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Incident investigation or root-cause analysis training would be advantageous
- A Blasting Certificate would be advantageous
- Existing relationships with mining regulators and relevant industry bodies would be beneficial
