General Manager: Exports

Our client is a premium citrus producer, packer and exporter based in the Citrusdal Valley, Western Cape. They are seeking an experienced General Manager: Exports to lead the execution and performance of their export business unit.

Working closely with the MD: Packing & Marketing, the General Manager will oversee export operations, including supply chain & logistics, fruit allocation and day-to-day decision-making. Focusing on maximising the value of their established demand and supply base through strong leadership, sound judgement, disciplined execution and process management.

The role will ensure strong coordination across the business and supply chain, optimal fruit allocation, effective programme execution and proactive management of operational and commercial risks. Success will be measured by consistent and reliable execution and strengthening the company’s position as a preferred supplier to global retailers and importers resulting in improved grower returns.

Key Responsibilities

• Operational Leadership, Planning & Execution

• Lead the export management & operations team.

• Manage the Export Management Operating System to ensure effective execution across the export value chain.

• Oversee supply-demand planning, logistics, export documentation and program delivery to the agreed marketing and export plan.

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, processes, systems and overall execution.

• Market plan, Allocation & Risk Management

• Optimise product allocation across customers, markets, product specifications, supply constraints and operational requirements within agreed strategic parameters.

• Ensuring that supply, customer demand and operational capacity is well aligned.

• Identify and managing key operational, commercial and supply chain risks.

• Financial Management

• Leading annual planning and budgeting for the export business unit.

• Driving cost control, financial discipline and accountability.

• Provide clear, concise and actionable reporting on progress, risk and key performance indicators.

Requirements

• Leadership experience within fresh produce, exports, supply chain management or related sectors.

• Relevant tertiary degree (eg. Management, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering or a related field)

• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.

• Strong managerial understanding of planning, logistics and export execution.

• High emotional intelligence, and lead effectively under pressure

• Ability to build trust, engage constructively across functions and develop people Experience operating in complex, fast-moving environments.

• Excellent communication skills and sound judgement.

• Fruit industry experience will be advantageous but not required.
