GENERAL FOREMAN - JOHANNESBURG

Introduction

We are seeking a seasoned General Foreman to support and work under the direction of the Site Agent / Site Manager on specific Johannesburg projects. This role requires a hands-on leader with extensive warehousing building experience from greenfield construction through to final handover. The successful candidate will coordinate daily construction activities, supervise trades and subcontractors, and ensure that work is executed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. The General Foreman will act as the operational backbone of the site, bridging management instructions with on-the-ground delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Site Supervision & Coordination

• Direct and oversee daily site and warehouse construction activities, ensuring adherence to project schedules and specifications.

• Supervise subcontractors, tradesmen, and site operatives to maintain productivity and quality.

• Implement instructions from the Site Agent / Site Manager and escalate issues promptly.

• Monitor site logistics, material deliveries, and warehouse resource allocation.

Quality & Safety Management

• Enforce compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

• Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and daily checks.

• Ensure workmanship meets required quality standards and contractual specifications.

Hands-On Involvement

• Actively participate in site setup, inspections, and problem-solving.

• Support measurement, progress tracking, and reporting tasks as directed.

• Assist in preparing site records, diaries, and supporting documentation for reporting.

Reporting & Communication

• Provide clear, structured updates to the Site Agent / Site Manager.

• Maintain transparent communication with site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.

• Highlight risks, delays, or discrepancies with practical solutions.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Minimum 10 years' experience in construction site supervision, with a proven track record as a General Foreman.

• Extensive warehousing construction experience from initial ground-up build through to final handover is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record in managing warehouse projects end-to-end within the construction environment.

• Strong knowledge of South African construction standards and JBCC contract awareness.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

• Proficiency in site documentation and reporting (basic MS Projects exposure advantageous).

• Familiarity with CCS (Candy) and BuildSmart processes is a great advantage but not essential.

• Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
