- Stefanutti Stocks Inland is seeking a General Foreman to supervise workers, materials and plant across designated areas of a construction project. The role is responsible for coordinating site activities, maintaining quality and safety standards, and ensuring work is completed efficiently according to programme and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all site activities relating to bulk earthworks, roadworks, stormwater drainage, pipelines and other civil infrastructure.
- Lead and manage foremen, operators, labourers and subcontractors, allocating work, resources, materials and equipment to achieve daily and weekly production targets.
- Interpret and accurately implement construction drawings, specifications, setting-out requirements, gridlines, datum lines and benchmarks.
- Monitor progress against construction programmes and schedules, ensuring work is completed efficiently and within agreed deadlines.
- Coordinate with Site Engineers, Supervisors, Project Managers and subcontractors to align priorities, resolve technical issues and maintain workflow and sequencing.
- Oversee plant and equipment utilisation, ensuring correct application, servicing and maintenance.
- Conduct regular inspections of workmanship and materials, complete quality assurance checklists, address non-conformances and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Enforce SHEQ requirements and legal standards, promoting a strong safety culture and maintaining good housekeeping across the site.
- Maintain accurate records of drawings, personnel, production, operational data, site activities and progress reports, ensuring superseded drawings are removed from circulation.
- Monitor and control material usage and wastage to maximise productivity and cost efficiency.
- Report daily progress, breakdowns, work stoppages, site constraints and resource requirements to the Site Agent or Project/Construction Manager.
- Monitor staff performance, maintain discipline and sound labour relations, and address employee grievances and welfare matters in line with company policies.
- Mentor and develop junior staff, promoting skills development, motivation, teamwork and staff retention.
- Ensure all employees and subcontractors comply with company policies, procedures, project requirements and applicable legislation.
Qualifications
- Grade 12
- Trade certificate/NQF 5/BEng./Diploma in Civil Engineering or related field
Skills
- Strong understanding of earthmoving equipment, construction methodologies, and productivity management
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications accurately.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Solid knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience in bulk earthworks and civil construction, including large dams, roads and earthworks
- Proven experience in supervisory or foreman roles on large-scale civil or mining infrastructure projects
- Valid driver's license, own vehicle fit for the construction environment
- Willingness to work away from home for extended periods.
