Our client, a large mining house, is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) Engineer to join its mining operation in Rustenburg, North West.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the legal compliance, safety, reliability, maintenance and optimisation of engineering infrastructure, plant, machinery and equipment across the mining operation.
This is a key engineering leadership position requiring strong knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), mining engineering regulations, statutory compliance, maintenance strategies, engineering risk management and operational excellence.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the appointed Responsible Engineer in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
- Ensure compliance with all statutory engineering requirements, mining legislation and applicable regulations.
- Manage and maintain engineering systems, infrastructure, plant, machinery, mobile equipment and associated assets.
- Develop and implement engineering maintenance strategies to optimise equipment availability, reliability and performance.
- Oversee preventative, planned and corrective maintenance programmes.
- Lead engineering teams and contractors to achieve safety, production, maintenance and operational targets.
- Manage engineering budgets, expenditure and cost-control initiatives.
- Conduct engineering risk assessments and incident investigations and ensure effective corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with SHEQ, health and safety and statutory engineering standards.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
- Provide engineering input into capital projects, feasibility studies and engineering improvement projects.
- Liaise with mining, production, maintenance and other operational departments to ensure engineering support meets production requirements.
- Ensure all statutory inspections, engineering audits, certificates, reports and documentation are completed accurately and within required timeframes.
- Drive a strong safety, compliance, reliability and accountability culture across engineering operations.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- BEng / BSc Engineering Degree, National Diploma in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Government Certificate of Competency (Mines and Works) – Essential.
- Minimum 5 years' mining engineering experience in a legally appointed/responsible engineering role.
- Proven experience in mining operations.
- Experience within open-pit mining operations will be advantageous.
- Thorough knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and applicable mining engineering regulations.
- Proven experience managing engineering teams, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of engineering maintenance, asset management and reliability principles.
- Experience with maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's licence.
