The Girls’ College is seeking to appoint a new Head of Department for Music. The position requires an organised, innovative, and exciting educator who is an exceptional musician and teacher. The Head of Department for Music works closely with staff across the campus, peripatetic staff, and the Director of the Visual and Performing Arts. The ideal candidate is inspiring, passionate, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who believe they have the required skills and competencies to take on this position from 1 January 2027 . Applicants are required to submit a comprehensive CV accompanied by a letter of motivation. The requirements for this position are: A suitable professional qualification from a recognised institution Experience teaching Music as a subject from Grade 8 – 12 Understanding of current educational practices and trends Previous experience in an IEB school and additional qualification in education is preferred Proficient in playing a musical instrument Experience in organising and leading musical events, performances and festivals Ability to lead the choir / and or orchestra Attend all Music Department executive and campus related meetings Management of part-time music staff, with strong administrative skills (operational and organisational) A fundamentally future-oriented approach to teaching and learning, adopting latest pedagogies and technologies in sound production An unequivocal commitment to efficiency in a fast-paced school environment. Other qualities of the successful candidate include: The ability to work independently and in collaboration with a variety of teams Excellent analytical, communication, intrapersonal and administrative skills A willingness to research and share latest trends in music and class music programmes Proof of registration with SACE and a sexual offender’s clearance certificate An awareness of the nature of the school and willingness to commit to its all-round Methodist Church ethos, co-curricular activities and pastoral approach. The following will be an advantage: • Experience at IEB or DBE Grade 12 marking would be a distinct advantage • Knowledge of IEB academic and administration expectations
