Overview

An established and award-winning South African manufacturer is looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer (Laravel / PHP) / Lead Software Engineer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to become the company's first dedicated in-house software developer, taking ownership of a modern software environment that supports key business operations. The successful candidate will maintain and enhance an existing Laravel-based ERP system while developing new business-critical applications, integrations, dashboards and reporting solutions. This role is ideal for a self-driven developer who enjoys taking ownership of systems, working closely with business stakeholders, and building scalable solutions that have a direct impact on business performance. Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Take ownership of the company's Laravel 11 / Livewire 3 ERP application.

• Design, develop and maintain new software solutions to support business operations.

• Build and enhance business-critical applications using Laravel, PHP and MySQL.

• Develop new production-floor systems, including real-time display boards, barcode scanning, label printing and weighing-scale integrations.

• Support application deployment, maintenance and continuous improvement.

System Integration & Automation

• Develop and maintain system integrations.

• Support Python-based reporting and planning tools.

• Maintain accounting integrations, including Xero.

• Ensure seamless data flow between business systems.

Database & Reporting

• Design and optimise relational database structures.

• Develop dashboards and live management reports.

• Improve data accuracy and reporting capabilities.

• Perform database migrations and maintain data integrity.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Develop and maintain automated testing for critical business processes.

• Improve test coverage across existing systems.

• Troubleshoot and resolve software issues.

• Maintain technical documentation and development standards.

Technical Leadership

• Take ownership of the software environment and recommend improvements.

• Collaborate with management to identify technology opportunities.

• Ensure solutions remain scalable, secure and maintainable.

• Drive continuous improvement through modern development practices and AI-assisted development tools.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development or a related field.

• Minimum 7 years' professional software development experience.

• Extensive experience developing and maintaining Laravel applications.

• Strong PHP 8.x development experience.

• Experience with Livewire or similar server-driven UI frameworks.

• Strong SQL and MySQL database experience.

• Experience designing and maintaining relational databases.

• Experience taking ownership of existing production systems.

• Working knowledge of Python.

• Experience with automated testing and software documentation.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Advantageous Qualifications & Experience

• Experience within manufacturing, ERP, WMS or inventory management environments.

• Experience with Bills of Materials (BOMs), MRP, stock management and costing.

• Experience integrating barcode scanners, label printers or industrial hardware.

• AWS and Laravel Vapor experience.

• Experience with Xero or similar accounting integrations.

• Knowledge of monitoring and deployment tools.
