Somerset Place Retirement Village is a registered NPO and seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly capable Frail Care Manager to lead our nursing and care team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated healthcare professional who is passionate about providing quality residential care to older persons while ensuring compliance, clinical excellence, and a resident-centred culture.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of our frail care facility reporting to the General Manager, ensuring that residents receive dignified, professional, and person-centred care in a safe and supportive environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Oversee all nursing and clinical care services within the frail care unit.
- Ensure compliance with nursing standards, healthcare regulations, and professional best practice.
- Monitor resident health outcomes and care plans.
- Coordinate medical interventions and multidisciplinary care.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and reporting systems.
Staff Management
- Lead, mentor, and support nursing and caregiving teams.
- Manage staffing rosters, leave, and performance management processes.
- Facilitate staff training, development, and clinical competency assessments.
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and compassionate care.
Resident Care & Wellbeing
- Ensure residents receive holistic physical, emotional, social, and psychological support.
- Engage with residents and families regarding care planning and health concerns.
- Promote resident dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Maintain compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and organisational policies.
- Lead infection prevention and control programmes.
- Manage risk, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure readiness for audits and inspections.
Operational Management
- Manage clinical supplies, equipment, and healthcare resources.
- Collaborate closely with management on strategic and operational matters.
- Assist with budgeting and efficient resource utilisation.
- Contribute to healthcare policy development and service improvement.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Essential
- Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 5 years' nursing experience.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a supervisory, ward management, or matron role.
- Experience in frail care, geriatric care, retirement villages, hospitals, or long-term care facilities.
- Sound knowledge of elderly care, chronic disease management, infection control, and nursing legislation.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
Advantageous
- Qualification in Geriatric Nursing.
- Experience within a retirement village or residential care environment.
- Knowledge of quality assurance systems and healthcare governance.
