FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN – FORKLIFTS

Location: East London, Eastern Cape

Employment Type: Permanent

Our client is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing forklifts and material-handling equipment at customer and company premises.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Service and maintain forklifts and material-handling equipment according to required standards.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and faults.

• Perform mechanical, hydraulic and electrical repairs.

• Provide accurate technical feedback and communicate required repairs to customers and supervisors.

• Maintain accurate vehicle maintenance and operational records.

• Promote service and maintenance programmes.

• Ensure excellent customer service at all times.

• Liaise effectively with workshop staff, field service teams and customers.

• Ensure compliance with OHSACT requirements and maintain a safe working environment.

• Keep up to date with new technologies, equipment and models.

• Maintain a clean and organised work area.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent.

• Qualified Diesel and/or Petrol Mechanic with forklift or material-handling equipment experience, OR qualified Forklift Mechanic.

• 3–5 years' mechanical, hydraulic and electrical experience relating to forklifts.

• General working knowledge of auto-electrical systems.

• Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, operating manuals and manufacturer's specifications.

• Ability to use relevant diagnostic equipment and specialised tools.

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• Excellent communication skills in English.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to service excellence.

• Ability to work under pressure and manage own time effectively.

• Willingness to work standby and overtime when required.

• Physically capable of performing the requirements of the role.

Profile

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Field Service Technician based in East London, Eastern Cape , with strong technical expertise in the servicing, maintenance and repair of forklifts and material-handling equipment. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Diesel/Petrol Mechanic or Forklift Mechanic with 3–5 years' relevant experience , particularly across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems. They must be confident diagnosing equipment breakdowns, interpreting technical schematics and using diagnostic equipment and specialised tools. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, reliable and customer-focused , with the ability to work independently, manage their own schedule and provide professional service at client premises. Strong communication, problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills are essential. Minimum requirements:

• Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent

• Mechanic Trade Test

• Qualified Diesel/Petrol Mechanic with forklift experience or qualified Forklift Mechanic

• 3–5 years' relevant forklift/material-handling experience

• Mechanical, hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting experience

• Code 8 driver's licence

• Valid forklift operator licence

• Willingness to work standby and overtime when required

• Physically fit to perform the requirements of the position
