About the Position

Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Forklift / Field Service Technician to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing forklifts and material handling equipment while ensuring high standards of safety, quality, efficiency, and customer service. The role requires a technically competent, self-motivated individual who can work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction. Knowledge, Skills, Education, Training and Experience Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education, training, qualifications, and experience required for this position:

  • Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
  • Qualified Diesel and/or Petrol Mechanic with relevant experience working on forklifts or similar material handling equipment; alternatively, a qualified Forklift Mechanic.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical experience, preferably relating to forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • General working knowledge of auto-electrical systems, including ignition, starting, charging, and illumination systems.
  • A strong work ethic, demonstrating honesty, reliability, commitment, dedication, and pride in the quality of work performed.
  • Highly developed prioritisation and multitasking skills, with a strong sense of urgency and the ability to effectively analyse problems, make sound decisions, and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with individuals at all levels within an organisation. Fluency in English, including the ability to read, write, and communicate comfortably in English, is essential.
  • A strong commitment to service excellence, with a high level of attention to detail, accuracy, and quality in all work performed.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage responsibilities effectively, meet deadlines, and take initiative when required.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and proactive, with the ability to identify and address tasks without constant supervision.
  • Ability to remain calm, productive, and effective when working under pressure or in demanding circumstances.
  • Ability to understand, apply, and consistently adhere to prescribed health and safety measures, procedures, and precautions.
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and apply technical information and instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, electrical and hydraulic diagrams, operating manuals, service manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Ability to correctly identify and utilise appropriate diagnostic equipment, specialised tools, and technical resources.
  • Willingness and ability to continuously develop technical knowledge and skills in line with advances in technology, equipment, and new forklift and material handling models.
  • Ability to accept and respond positively to constructive feedback and use it to improve performance and technical competency.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe, organised, and orderly work area in accordance with workplace standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, contribute positively to the working environment, and support colleagues in achieving operational objectives.
  • Strong time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise work, follow schedules, and complete assigned tasks within required timeframes.
  • Must be of sober habits and demonstrate a high level of energy, reliability, and general physical fitness appropriate to the requirements of the position.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties associated with the role, including carrying, lifting, and moving heavy objects, as well as standing and sitting for extended periods. The role may also require frequent bending, stretching, twisting, reaching, and other physical movements involving the body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Must be willing and able to participate in standby duties and work overtime, including after-hours, weekends, or public holidays when reasonably required. This is necessary due to the specialised nature of the industry and the operational requirements of customers.

Qualifications and Licences

  • Relevant Trade Test Certificate – Mechanic.
  • Code 8 / light motor vehicle driver's licence, where applicable to Field Service Technician duties.
  • Valid forklift operator licence.
  • Any additional relevant technical qualifications, certifications, or training relating to forklifts, material handling equipment, hydraulics, electrical systems, or diagnostics would be advantageous.
