Requirements

  • Minimum of Grade 10 with 10 years' experience in Food Service or Grade 12 certificate with 4 years' relevant experience in Food Service Unit. Exposure to Provincial Hospital Food Service Unit/qualification in Food Service will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Human Nutrition Hygiene and Safety Procedures. Knowledge and understanding of production processes and human nutrition service rendered. Knowledge of Food Service Equipment Name, Operation, Uses and Care.
  • Literacy with special focus on: Numerical e.g. Basic Calculations and Knowledge of Decimal, measures, etc.. Good reading and writing skills Interpersonal and verbal report, etc.. Must be able to work shifts and public holidays. The incumbent must have problem-solving skills and be able to work under pressure.

Duties

  • Monitoring pre-preparations and preparations of meals and whole general cleaning of kitchen, receiving of food product from suppliers and chemicals, storing, issuing from supervisor and all provisions delivered according to procurement and set guidelines.
  • Signing of stock and consumption and other relevant papers, responsible for portion control in dishing up areas according to prescribed portions in a recipe with the application of control measures. Responsible for own areas orders, storage areas, receiving and control of stock and assist with the application of control measures.
  • Responsible for safekeeping and ensuring that faulty equipment are reported immediately, performing of assigned functions duties, handling of keys, ensuring that all storage areas are efficiently cleaned and locked at all the times along with accompanying responsibilities.
  • Update and maintain inventory reports and controls assistance with inventory counting, attend performance training and staff development, conduct the PMDS assessments, perform relevant administrative duties as per the job description and follow all food service procedures and policies given by the Food Service Management.
  • Good communication skills and multi-skilled. Ability to handle conflicts and maintain set policies, procedures and guidelines. Ability to work under pressure and be responsible for own working area and duties entrusted to pressure. Drive to deliver service excellence to patients and staff. Awareness of Batho Pele Principles.
