- We are seeking a highly adaptable and skilled Floating Technician Team Lead to oversee and coordinate fibre network operations across multiple regions and teams.
- This role blends technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring that installations, maintenance, and fault resolution are completed efficiently and to the highest standard.
- The Team Lead will manage resources, guide technicians in the field, coordinate with operational teams, and step in hands-on where needed to maintain service quality and respond to high-demand situations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Coordination
- Lead and supervise floating technicians deployed across multiple areas, ensuring tasks are completed according to priority and operational needs.
- Allocate resources, tools, and team members effectively based on project demands and incidents.
- Act as the primary point of contact between floating teams, NOC, route teams, and contractors.
- Provide technical mentorship, training, and on-the-job support to technicians.
- Monitor performance, enforce health, safety, and quality standards, and address any compliance gaps.
Technical Operations
- Oversee and participate in the installation of network infrastructure and equipment according to site plans.
- Ensure boot stock, electrical tools, and installation equipment are maintained, available, and in optimal working condition.
- Lead fibre splicing, testing, and fault-finding operations to restore connectivity quickly and effectively.
- Support residential, business, and backhaul fibre installations.
- Coordinate and respond to network outages, service disruptions, and high-priority incidents.
- Manage preventive maintenance programs for fibre infrastructure.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of work, updating relevant operational systems.
- Organise and lead after-hours call-out teams when required.
- Ensure rapid mobilisation of resources during major outages or service interruptions.
Requirements
- Matric Certificate Grade 12.
- 4+ years of experience in fibre installation, splicing, or maintenance, with proven leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of cable floating, installation, and related cable work.
- Skilled in the use of cable blowing machines, compressors, and power/hand tools.
- Valid Driver's License Code B and own reliable transport.
- Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong coordination, time management, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel between regions and work on a rotating standby schedule.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-functional team.
