- Providing strategic leadership and management of the University's vehicle fleet.
- Developing and implementing fleet strategies, policies, and optimisation initiatives.
- Managing fleet acquisition, replacement, utilisation, maintenance, disposal, and lifecycle planning.
- Conducting research, benchmarking, feasibility studies, and cost-benefit analyses to support fleet decisions.
- Managing fleet performance monitoring, telematics systems, reporting dashboards, and data-driven decision-making.
- Ensuring compliance with all legislative, licensing, registration, insurance, roadworthiness, and regulatory requirements.
- Managing fleet safety, security, risk management, and accident prevention initiatives.
- Overseeing maintenance programmes, service providers, contracts, and service level agreements.
- Managing fleet budgets, financial controls, procurement processes, tenders, and governance requirements.
- Leading and developing fleet personnel and fostering a high-performance culture.
- Preparing strategic reports and recommendations for senior management.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- A relevant tertiary or postgraduate qualification in Fleet Management, Transport Management, Logistics, Business Management, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- At least five years' experience of managing a large vehicle fleet.
- Demonstrated experience in fleet optimisation, maintenance management, and lifecycle planning.
- Experience of managing tenders, contracts, procurement processes, and service providers.
- Proven people management and leadership experience.
- Strong analytical, financial management, and strategic planning skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Advanced negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of relevant transport, licensing, procurement, and regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of governance and compliance requirements.
- Advanced computer literacy.
- The ability to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
- A valid Code B driver's licence and own transport.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Experience within a university or large public-sector environment.
- Professional qualifications or certifications in fleet, logistics, transport, or asset management.
- Strong knowledge of fleet lifecycle costing, total cost of ownership analysis, and fleet optimisation methodologies.
- Experience of leading large-scale vehicle procurement and disposal programmes.
- Knowledge of sustainability, alternative fuel technologies, and emerging transport solutions.
