Karan Beef Farming is looking for an experienced and hands-on Fleet and Distribution Manager to take responsibility for the efficient movement of products from our Albert Falls Abattoir to our customers. The Fleet and Distribution Manager will be responsible for the planning, coordination and control of all outbound product distribution and fleet operations. The role ensures accurate, timely and cost-effective deliveries while maintaining high standards of food safety, cold-chain compliance, fleet performance and customer service. The position will also be responsible for site fuel management and the effective management of drivers and operational staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
- Plan, coordinate and manage all outbound product distribution and customer deliveries.
- Ensure deliveries are accurate, on time and maintained within required cold-chain standards.
- Optimise delivery routes, vehicle utilisation and distribution costs.
- Manage daily dispatch activities, including driver roll calls, vehicle checks, loading accuracy and departure schedules.
- Lead and manage drivers and offloading teams, ensuring high standards of performance, discipline and customer service.
- Monitor vehicle and driver performance through fleet tracking and telematics systems.
- Ensure vehicles are correctly licensed, serviced, maintained and compliant with applicable legislation.
- Manage breakdowns, maintenance schedules and fleet availability to minimise operational disruption.
- Monitor transport costs, fuel consumption, kilometres travelled and overall fleet efficiency.
- Manage site fuel operations, including diesel procurement, stock control, usage and reconciliations.
- Investigate delivery discrepancies, excessive fuel consumption, vehicle incidents and operational exceptions.
- Prepare and present distribution, fleet and cost-performance reports to management.
- Identify and implement opportunities to continuously improve distribution and fleet performance.

- Scheduling and organisational skills.

- Sound knowledge of distribution, fleet management, route planning and dispatch operations.
- Strong understanding of cold-chain management and food-safety requirements.
- Good cost-control and commercial awareness, including fuel consumption and fleet operating costs.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to interpret operational and fleet performance data.
- Good working knowledge of fleet tracking and telematics systems.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and computer literacy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer-service orientation and ability to manage delivery-related issues professionally.
- High level of attention to detail, accuracy and accountability.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively and meet strict delivery deadlines.
- Strong focus on safety, compliance and operational discipline.
- A practical, hands-on management approach with a continuous-improvement mindset.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications/Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric – essential.
- A relevant Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Operations Management or a related field – advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in distribution, transport, logistics and/or fleet operations.
- At least 2–3 years’ experience in a supervisory or management capacity, including the management of drivers and operational staff.
- Experience within food production, meat processing, cold-chain, FMCG or a high-volume distribution environment – highly advantageous.
- Proven experience in route planning, dispatch operations, fleet utilisation and delivery scheduling.
- Practical experience with fleet tracking/telematics systems.
- Sound knowledge of cold-chain requirements, transport legislation, vehicle compliance and road safety requirements.
- Experience in fleet maintenance coordination, fuel management, fuel reconciliation and transport cost control.
- Strong experience in operational reporting, KPI monitoring and Microsoft Excel.
- Valid driver’s licence – essential.
