- Macsteel Roofing Gauteng is looking for a skilled Fitter & Turner to assemble, maintain, and repair roofing machines and plant equipment — including press machines, guillotines, and seaming machines with both mechanical and electrical components. You'll set up and operate lathes, mills, saws, grinders, and drill presses, work from technical drawings, and help drive continuous improvement in production quality and cost.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum NQF Level 4 - 5 Grade 12+ / Higher certificate
- Artisan Qualification as Red Seal Fitter and Turner Essential
- Must be able to use engineering measuring instruments.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in machinery and equipment.
- Excellent communication skills, fluent in English.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of the Roofing products, machinery and equipment will be an advantage.
- Ability to read technical drawings, assembly diagrams, and installation manuals.
- Must be prepared to work overtime.
- Knowledge of SHEQ.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assembly and maintenance of Roofing Machines and Equipment.
- Repair and maintenance of various other machines in the plant, press machines, guillotines, seaming machines all equipment will have mechanical and electrical work required.
- Load/unload parts from machine.
- Works from detailed drawings.
- Lays out reference lines and points as a guide in machining operations when necessary.
- Sets up milling machines by positioning and locating work piece and clock workpiece with clocking gauges.
- Set up Lathe Machines – Clamping, clocking, and measuring out work pieces.
- Control and adjust machine settings – Speeds and feeds.
- Operation of assigned machines including milling, lathe, horizontal and vertical saws, grinders, and drill presses.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance and cleaning on assigned machines.
- Use of hand tools and measuring equipment needed to perform the job.
- Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments.
- Following operational plans to ensure defined project deadlines are met.
- Comply with work rules, standards, and methods.
- Comply with Safe work methods implemented in the workshop.
- Prioritize production outputs and delivery times based on agreed timelines.
- Conduct safety assessments within the workshop and comply with methods of operation.
- Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting and verifying proper operation of machine prior to use.
- Identify and troubleshoot any issues or malfunctions, taking appropriate corrective measures.
- Recommend viable solutions to reduce production costs as well as improve production processes and product quality.
- Perform routine inspections on hand tools and consumables at your workstation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to enhancing production procedures and service quality.
- Ensure housekeeping and SHEQ requirements.
- Ability to work with micrometers and other measuring equipment.
