Fitter: Machine Repairs

Introduction

Role description

This role works under the direction of the Machine Services Foreman and is responsible for the sustenance of a customer centric culture towards internal customers i.e. forming. To contribute to the efficient running of IS machines and the economical repairing of machine equipment spares.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Performance Areas

• Attend minor breakdowns and report major breakdowns

• Responsible for Job change preparation and execution and to assist with the settling of jobs

• Maintain good engineering practices

• Carry out preventative and planned maintenance

• Responsible for fault finding identification, repairing machine components and general maintenance

Quality Orientation and Customer Centricity

• Must do own inspection of all machines within span of responsibility across the factory

Continuous Improvement and Collaboration

• Implement agreed standards and use measurements as a basis for improvements

• Conduct a continuous review of the jobs in order to improve overall performance

• Identify and take action to correct problems affecting production i.e. reoccurring challenges or sections

Safety Compliance

• Ensure that working environment and operating standards are in compliance with safety, health and quality legislative requirements

• Adherence to TAKE 2, 5S and LOTO

• Knowledgeable on how to conduct risk assessments

Desired Experience & Qualification

Required Qualifications

• Grade 12 / N3 Mechanical

• Fitter – Trade Tested

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

• Minimum of 3 - 5 years relevant experience in the FMCG environment

• I.S.

• Machine experience will be beneficial

• The experience of welding and gas torches will be an added advantage.

• Detailed understanding of compressors and driers.

• Knowledge of the following: belt drives, conveyor belts, crushers, pneumatics, hydraulics, furnaces, weighing systems, pumps, gearboxes and drives.
