Fire Engineer (Design)

Key Responsibilities

• Design fire protection systems, including automatic sprinkler systems, fire hydrants, hose reels, fire detection, and gaseous suppression systems.
• Prepare fire protection calculations, hydraulic calculations, and technical reports.
• Produce detailed design drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, or other relevant design software.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, NFPA, and other applicable fire engineering standards and regulations.
• Liaise with architects, consulting engineers, contractors, and clients throughout project lifecycles.
• Attend site inspections, design meetings, and commissioning activities where required.
• Review technical specifications and provide engineering support during project execution.
• Assist in value engineering and the optimisation of fire protection system designs.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and design records.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng, BSc or BTech in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in fire protection system design.
• Experience designing sprinkler, hydrant, hose reel, fire detection, and suppression systems.
• Working knowledge of SANS, NFPA, and relevant fire protection standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Valid driver's licence.

Advantageous

• Experience with hydraulic calculation software. • Revit/BIM experience. • SAQCC registration or eligibility. • ECSA registration or progress toward registration. • Experience within consulting engineering or fire protection contracting.
