Brief Role Summary

  • The Management Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of the finance team, ensuring accurate financial reporting, robust internal controls, and effective financial processes.
  • The role will support strategic decision‑making by providing timely financial insights, maintaining compliance, and driving operational efficiencies within the finance function.
  • This is a Middle Management position focused on Importer Finance Operations.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Importer Finance Team Operations

  • Lead and supervise the daily activities of the finance team, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and cashbook management, and general ledger activities
  • Manage month-end and year-end processes
  • Ensure proper maintenance of financial records in accordance with applicable accounting standards
  • Prepare, review, and analyse monthly management accounts and prepare Flash files
  • Assist with preparation of Budget and Forecasts
  • Assist with preparation of Board and FRRC Materials
  • Oversee the costing of vehicle shipments, ensuring accurate allocation of all related expenses
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for various inventory accrual accounts, ensuring the accuracy and adequacy of accruals and processing accrual releases where required
  • Conduct profitability analysis for vehicles, shipments, and related business activities, providing insights and recommendations to support decision‑

Compliance, Governance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax regulations, and company policies
  • Maintain strong internal controls and assist with internal and external audits
  • Review VAT returns prior to submission to the Group Tax Department, complete the Tax Pack, and address any related queries received from the group
  • Implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency

Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

  • Monitor and manage company cash flow
  • Oversee debtor collections and creditor payments
  • Optimise working capital through effective process oversight

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for the finance team
  • Develop team capability through training and mentorship
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture

Qualifications and experience required

  • Preferable B. Com. Accounting or studying towards
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Key Skills and Attributes required

  • The ability to analyse large sets of financial data to identify trends, patterns, and discrepancies.
  • A keen eye for accuracy and attention to details, ensuring all financial data and reports are precise and error-free.
  • Ability to handle large datasets, clean data, and use advanced Excel functions e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP for financial reporting.
  • Understanding of Financial Regulations and Standards: Knowledge of accounting standards like GAAP, IFRS, and relevant tax codes.
  • The ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports tailored for different audiences, presenting complex financial data in a digestible manner
  • The ability to document processes and procedures for reporting, ensuring consistency and auditability.
  • Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data and reporting processes.
  • Strong ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines, especially during busy reporting periods
  • Multitasking: The ability to manage multiple reporting tasks at once without compromising quality.
  • Understanding of Compliance Requirements: Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements for different jurisdictions e.g., tax filings, and financial disclosures.
  • Adherence to strong ethical standards in reporting and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
  • Ability to work with various departments e.g., finance, distribution, legal, tax to gather necessary data for reports.
  • Experience in working with external auditors, regulatory bodies, and senior leadership to ensure reports meet all necessary requirements.
  • Staying informed about changes in financial regulations and reporting standards.
  • Continuously seeking ways to improve reporting processes and systems for greater efficiency.
  • Integrity and Transparency: A strong ethical mindset, ensuring that all financial data is presented truthfully and accurately, with no manipulation or misrepresentation.
