About the Internship

We are a leading distributor of top international brands, which involves importing, warehousing, sales, and marketing to the local market.

This internship is a collaboration between the Company, Yes-4-Youth and the Mastercard Foundation.

What you’ll do

Reporting to the Financial Accountant and working with the sales, marketing and commercial teams, you will get to know the workings of operational finance in a business.

Support the operations team (Sales and Commercial) with purchase order administration, invoice verification and spend control.

Purchase Order and Trade Spend Administration

Receive, review and prioritise purchase order (PO) requests from Sales and Commercial teams, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of trade and marketing expenditure.

Manage the reconciliation of retailer remittances, billings, and invoices against approved contracts, trackers, budgets and purchase orders.

Review documentation to identify discrepancies, duplicate submissions, incorrect billing, or spend variances, and liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure prompt resolution and accurate financial processing.

Process and raise purchase orders for key retail, wholesale, online and independent customer accounts, ensuring all expenditure is accurately matched to approved trackers, contracts and supporting documentation.

Validate invoice values against approved spend allocations and ensure all purchase orders accurately reflect the corresponding invoice details. Circulate the PO’s for signature and approval and share with Debtors once approved.

Monitor trade spend trackers to maintain accuracy and integrity of financial records. Identify variances, facilitate the creation of new tracker lines, and coordinate amendments, reallocations, savings or closures of existing lines where required.

Highlight budget overruns to the relevant Managers and assist in ensuring expenditure remains aligned to approved budgets. Update Marketing Purchase Orders (MPOs) and PO memo dates to reflect changes to promotional periods and expenditure timelines.

Administer Above-the-Line (ATL) marketing expenditure by validating spend against approved Marketing Purchase Orders, processing associated purchase orders, reconciling expenditure against budget allocations and maintaining accurate balances.

Provide ongoing financial administrative support to Managers by verifying invoice accuracy, ensuring compliance with company processes, resolving purchase order and billing queries, and maintaining complete and accurate records of all purchase orders, reconciliations, tracker amendments and supporting documentation.

The profile we are looking for

A completed BCom degree in FINANCE is essential.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient in Word and Excel

Resilience and ability to work in a high-pressured environment.

The ability to solve problems and apply appropriate judgement in decision making.

Internship Contract

1-year fixed term internship

Mon- Fri: 8h00-17h00

Working arrangements: on-site in Woodmead

Monthly stipend of R7,400 per month.
