- This is a hands-on hunter role focused on identifying new customers, opening accounts, demonstrating products, converting quotations into orders and building repeat business. The successful candidate will target hardware retailers, tool shops, distributors, contractors, construction businesses, workshops and other commercial customers.
- The role is suited to a self-motivated salesperson who is comfortable cold calling, travelling, working independently and helping to establish a growing power tool range in the South African market.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12
- Minimum 2 to 3 years' external sales, field sales or business development experience.
- Experience selling power tools, hardware, construction equipment, industrial equipment or other technical products is preferred; direct power tool or hardware sales experience will be a strong advantage.
- Proven ability to cold call, generate new business, open new customer accounts and work towards sales targets.
- Existing customer relationships within the hardware retail, tools, construction, contractor or industrial sectors will be advantageous.
- Confident presenting and demonstrating products, preparing quotations, managing follow-ups and maintaining an active sales pipeline.
- Strong communication, negotiation and customer relationship skills.
- Basic computer literacy with the ability to maintain sales records and submit reports.
- Valid driver's licence - essential; own vehicle advantageous.
- Willing to travel regularly across Gauteng and attend trade events where required; must be self-motivated, persistent and comfortable working independently.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and approach potential customers within the company's target markets.
- Develop new business with hardware stores, tool retailers, distributors, contractors, construction companies, workshops, engineering businesses, manufacturers and other commercial customers.
- Plan daily and weekly customer visits, conduct face-to-face sales meetings and maintain a structured external sales route.
- Present and demonstrate the power tool range, explaining product features, benefits, applications and limitations accurately.
- Prepare quotations, follow up consistently and convert enquiries and quotations into confirmed orders.
- Work towards agreed monthly and quarterly targets for sales, gross profit, new accounts, customer visits, quotations, conversion and repeat business.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers to support repeat sales and customer retention.
- Identify opportunities for bulk sales, corporate accounts, distributors, resellers and new sales channels.
- Maintain accurate records of leads, customer details, quotations, visits, follow-ups, orders and active opportunities, and submit regular sales and pipeline reports.
- Monitor competitor products, pricing and promotions and provide practical market feedback to management.
- Assist with product launches, marketing campaigns, promotions, trade shows, exhibitions and basic product content where required.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of the power tool range, including cordless tools, drills, impact drivers, grinders, rotary hammers, saws, sanders, batteries, chargers, accessories, spare parts and consumables.
- Assist customers with product selection, order follow-ups and warranty enquiries, escalate technical issues where necessary and take proper care of demonstration tools and samples.
- Work closely with management, procurement, warehouse, finance, customer service and technical support teams, and assist with reasonable market-development activities within a growing start-up environment.
