Expert Back-End Developer (Java & Azure) (Contract) - Gauteng/Hybrid -ISB8302301

Introduction

Our Client is looking for an Expert Back-End Developer to join the core Software Engineering squad within their global IT Hub, driving the "Shopfloor Production Workorder Execution" platform.

This mission-critical manufacturing product governs real-time work order processing, operational routing, and execution controls across plant shop floors globally.

Operating as an authoritative regional industry leader, you will lead the architecture, microservices engineering, and API integrations across Java backends and Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted manufacturing operations.

• Enterprise Java & Microservices Mastery: 8 to 10+ years of robust commercial development experience with deep expertise in Java, RESTful web services, and designing scalable, distributed microservices architectures.

• Full Stack & Scripting Versatility: Strong fluency in JavaScript, Node.js, and JSON, with working exposure to modern JS UI frameworks (Angular) and database design across Oracle (SQL) and PostgreSQL.

• Azure Cloud Architecture & Delivery: Practical experience in Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and architecture, GitHub repository workflows, and deploying resilient production-grade solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Full Lifecycle Engineering: Work within the DevOps feature team to design, build, test, and maintain backend microservices and frontend touchpoints.

• Shopfloor Feature Delivery: Liaise with business users to translate shopfloor manufacturing requirements into technical solutions and sized Jira user stories.

• Code Quality & Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with unit testing and coding standards, while authoring system documentation in line with ISO standards.

• DevOps Support & Reliability: Provide ongoing support for existing operational solutions, resolving production impediments and identifying risks proactively.

• Mentorship & Architectural Advisory: Review and present proposed architectures to Product Owners and Sub-Product Owners, while mentoring and coaching fellow squad members.

Location & Relocation

Applicants based outside of Gauteng must be willing to relocate to Midrand/Menlyn/Rosslyn. Please note that relocation to the province will be at the candidate's own cost.

• IT Degree or Diploma is advantageous.

• At least 8 to 10 years of relevant professional software development experience.

• Extensive track record in implementing, testing (manual or automated), and monitoring enterprise-scale solutions.

• Commercial experience working inside Agile software delivery frameworks is advantageous.

• Advanced coding skills in Java, JavaScript, and JSON.

• Microservices design and development with deep expertise in API-first architectures.

• RESTful web services implementation and protocol design.

• JavaScript and UI frameworks: Node.js and Angular.

• Database systems: Relational SQL across Oracle and PostgreSQL.

Cloud & Version Control

• Microsoft Azure Cloud platform experience.

• Solid understanding of Cloud Architecture and Cloud Infrastructure patterns.

• Version control and collaborative workflows with GitHub.

Advantageous Skills

• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.

• Build tooling with Maven and version control on Git / Bitbucket.

• CI/CD automation with GitHub Actions (provisioning, configuring, maintaining, and securing pipelines).

• Azure PaaS services: Azure App Service, Azure Container Apps, and Azure Functions.

• Jira, Confluence, and Agile Software Delivery practices (iterative, adaptive, collaborative).
