- Children's Ages: 6 year old - Girl
- Child's Neurodivergence Snapshot: She is on the autism spectrum. She enjoys spending time alone and prefers using her tablet. She has a facilitator who works with her throughout the school day. She is independent with toileting and can read and write, although her level of comprehension is still developing.
- Support Style: The Executive Au Pair / Governess will be responsible for developing and implementing a structured programme that supports the child's communication, emotional regulation, independence, learning, and overall development.
- The successful candidate should be comfortable collaborating with therapists, teachers, and other professionals involved in her care, adapting her programme as therapies, lessons, and extracurricular activities evolve.
- A calm, structured, and consistent approach that encourages engagement, reduces reliance on screen time where appropriate, and builds confidence and independence is essential. The family is specifically looking for someone who enjoys an active lifestyle and can encourage outdoor activities, swimming, sports, and educational play to promote healthy development and reduce unnecessary screen time.
- Working Hours: Monday to Friday 07:00 – 16:00 Ad hoc weekends may be required with prior notice
- School Holiday Hours: Generally, the same as above; however, flexibility is required depending on therapy appointments, school events, travel, family commitments, and childcare requirements.
- Live in or Live out: Both options available. If live in: Own bedroom and shared bathroom. Meals included.
Duties
- Provide holistic support for her daily care, wellbeing, development, and academic success by overseeing her daily routine and implementing her individual developmental programme.
- Facilitate her morning learning programme at her school premises, transport her to and from school, extra murals, therapy sessions, appointments, and other activities, and provide homework, revision, and educational support while working closely with her teachers and therapists.
- Prepare nutritious meals, snacks, and school lunches, maintain structured routines that encourage independence, positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and age-appropriate development, and ensure all school bags, uniforms, and daily essentials are prepared.
- Oversee and manage the other Au Pairs caring for her younger siblings by coordinating schedules, allocating responsibilities, mentoring the childcare team, maintaining consistent childcare standards, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the children's care.
- Manage all child-related administration and household logistics, including meal planning, shopping, purchasing child-related items, coordinating school and activity schedules, liaising with the housekeeping team, monitoring household stock, and maintaining proactive communication with the family regarding her progress, wellbeing, and daily routines.
- The successful candidate will also oversee the children's wardrobes, laundry cupboards, bedrooms, and bathrooms to ensure they remain organised, well maintained, and presented to a high standard.
- While the housekeeping team will carry out the cleaning, the Executive Au Pair / Governess will be responsible for maintaining the overall standard and organisation of these areas.
- A comprehensive monthly progress report will be required for all of the children, covering developmental progress, school performance, therapy updates, routines, milestones, behaviour, achievements, areas requiring additional support, and goals for the following month. Ad hoc weekends may be required with prior notice.
Special Requirements
- The family is seeking an experienced, highly professional Executive Au Pair / Governess with substantial experience supporting children with autism and neurodivergent needs. Qualifications or significant experience in Early Childhood Development, Foundation Phase Education, Special Needs Education, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Child Psychology, Applied Behaviour Analysis ABA, or related fields would be highly advantageous. Previous experience working alongside therapists and implementing developmental programmes is essential. Experience working within an executive or professional household would be advantageous.
- The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership and people-management skills, be confident leading, mentoring, and maintaining high standards across a childcare team, demonstrate excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving abilities, and provide a calm, structured, and nurturing environment that promotes independence, emotional regulation, and overall development. Current First Aid and CPR certification would be advantageous.
- Start Date and Contract Term: ASAP - Permanent
- Salary: R30 000pm Gross, before deductions + SARS rates per km R4.95
All Au Pair Extraordinaire applicants must fill the following requirements:
- Must have at least 12 consecutive months of formal child caring experience, excluding work done for friends and family. This experience must be within the last 2 years.
- Must have their own, reliable car and at least 18 months driving experience.
- Must have at least 2 contactable childcare references.
- Must have a clear criminal record
- Must have a passion for children
- Must have Matric
- Must have a South African ID document.
