Location: Johannesburg

Initial Contract Period: 3 months extendable

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Project Digitalization & EPMS Support

  • Support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of EPMS and project digitalization solutions.
  • Work closely with project teams to understand project progress, milestones, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
  • Translate project management requirements into practical digital dashboards, reports, data views, and system functions.
  • Support the digital tracking of project progress, including planned vs. actual status, milestones, key deliverables, and completion trends.
  • Assist project teams in structuring project data so that progress can be measured consistently across sites, work packages, and project phases.
  • Support the integration of project information from different business modules, including materials, quality, EHS, documents, and approvals where required.
  • Help define and maintain project reporting logic, status definitions, data ownership, and update rules.
  • Work with business users to identify manual reporting activities that can be digitized or automated.
  • Support user testing, issue analysis, and enhancement of EPMS functions and reporting solutions.
  • Prepare user guidance, reporting definitions, and basic technical documentation for delivered digital solutions.

2. Data Integration & Management

  • Maintain the integrity and consistency of project data across operational systems and reporting platforms.
  • Monitor data quality and identify missing, duplicated, inconsistent, delayed, or incorrect information.
  • Understand and maintain data relationships and dependencies between different project systems and modules.
  • Perform data validation and reconciliation between source systems, databases, and digital reports.
  • Work with project and operational teams to resolve data-quality and data-ownership issues.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate data structures, naming conventions, field definitions, and reporting standards.
  • Support data cleansing, transformation, mapping, and correction activities where required.

3. Digital Reporting & Dashboard Development

  • Design, build, and maintain digital project-progress dashboards and management reports.
  • Translate business and project requirements into clear reporting logic, KPIs, visualisations, and data models.
  • Develop reports that consolidate project data from multiple systems, databases, files, and other approved data sources.
  • Build reporting views for key project indicators such as progress, milestones, schedule status, completion rate, backlog, risks, and exceptions.
  • Develop and maintain data models and analytical datasets required for project reporting.
  • Create appropriate relationships, calculations, filters, hierarchies, and drill-down views for management analysis.
  • Automate repetitive data preparation and reporting activities where practical.
  • Ensure dashboards and reports are user-friendly, logically structured, and suitable for both operational and management use.
  • Ensure reported figures accurately reflect the underlying source data and agreed business rules.
  • Monitor dashboard and query performance and optimise slow or inefficient reports.
  • Maintain existing reports and develop new reports based on changing project and business requirements.
  • Support report publishing, access control, version management, and user feedback where applicable.

4. Testing, Data Consistency & Reporting Accuracy

  • Ensure consistency between source systems, databases, data models, and project-progress reports.
  • Investigate discrepancies between operational data and reported project status.
  • Implement validation checks to identify data anomalies, missing updates, and reporting exceptions.
  • Ensure reports use the correct data sources, business rules, status definitions, and calculation logic.
  • Maintain traceability from reported figures and project status back to their source data.
  • Work closely with system owners, project teams, and business users to resolve data and reporting discrepancies.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Project & Business Systems

  • Understanding of project management concepts, project lifecycle, milestones, and progress tracking.
  • Understanding of project scope, deliverables, work packages, and project structuring.
  • Experience working with project teams, business users, and external service providers.
  • Understanding of project-related processes such as materials, quality, EHS, documents, and approvals is advantageous.
  • Ability to understand business processes and convert them into digital reporting requirements.

Data, Development & Reporting

  • Good SQL and relational database knowledge; able to query, join, validate, and analyse project data.
  • Experience with BI/reporting tools such as Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, Qlik, or similar.
  • Understanding of data modelling, relationships, KPIs, calculations, and dashboard design.
  • Ability to link and consolidate data from multiple systems and data sources.
  • Understanding of ETL / data transformation concepts and basic data-integration methods.
  • Understanding of OLTP, OLAP, data warehouse, and analytical dataset concepts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot data consistency, validation, reconciliation, and reporting issues.
  • Basic scripting or automation capability (for example Python, Power Query, DAX, or similar) would be advantageous.
  • Basic understanding of APIs or system interfaces would be advantageous.
