ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER REQUIREMENTS

  • A National Diploma, Bachelor of Science or B Tech degree in Environmental Health with one year's complete community service.
  • Registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa HPCSA
  • Law enforcement/ Peace Officer certificate will be an added advantage
  • Environmental Management Inspectorate Certificate
  • Valid driver's license Code EB
  • A sound functional knowledge of the following legislation:
  • Pixley ka Seme District Municipality`s Municipal Health ByLaw, 2019
  • Air Quality Act No 39 of 2004
  • The National Health Act, Act 61 of 2003 and Regulations
  • The Foodstuffs, Cosmetic and Disinfectants Act, Act 54 of 1972
  • The Hazardous Substances Control Act, Act 15 of 1973
  • The Tobacco Products Control Amendment Act, Act 12 of 1999
  • National Environmental Management Act, Act 107 of 1998
  • National Building Regulations and Standards Act, Act 103 0f 1977
  • Leadership Skills
  • Report Writing Skills
  • Computer Literate
  • Community development
  • Project Management
  • Good communication Skills, both verbal and in writing. Must be able to communicate in all the languages that are predominantly used within the region. Afrikaans, English
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of the different sanitation systems

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct municipal health services inspections
  • Water Quality Monitoring
  • Waste Management
  • Health Surveillance of premises
  • Surveillance and prevention of Communicable Disease, excluding immunizations
  • Food, Vector and Environmental Pollution control
  • Disposal of the dead
  • Chemical Safety
