Key Responsibility Areas

  • Survey undeveloped areas vacant land, swamp land, marsh land, rivers, streams, watercourses etc. and other prescribed localities including residential and industrial areas for actual and potential mosquito breeding.
  • Collect specimens of mosquito larvae and freshwater snails, record their exact location and submit same for laboratory identification/research.
  • Destroy mosquito breeding with larvicides and apply herbicides for the control and destruction of weeds.
  • Note and report on public health nuisances i.e. illegal dumping and derelict vehicles, squatting/illegal shack erection, sewer surcharges, dead animals, offensive smells, fly breeding and rodent activity, pollution of rivers/water courses.
  • Undertake vector surveys and control campaigns.
  • Maintain a full record of daily work and submit a monthly statistical return.
  • Clean vehicles attached to the Vector Control Section.
  • Assist in the training of students in the field.
  • Ensures effective destruction of rodents, cockroaches and other pest by the correct selection and utilisation of chemicals, materials, and equipment.

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 12 NQF Level 4 or equivalent.
  • 1 Year relevant experience

Preferred Requirements

  • 2 Years relevant experience.
