The successful candidate will be responsible for performing high-quality machining, welding, fitting, and related technical work on material handling equipment and components, while ensuring the efficient execution of daily responsibilities and maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer service. Detail: Key Performance Areas (Essential Duties and Responsibilities) To perform this role successfully, the appointed individual must be able to carry out each essential duty and key performance area satisfactorily. This list is not exhaustive and may be amended or supplemented from time to time to accommodate operational and business requirements. Deliver a high standard of customer service in a polite, professional, and courteous manner. Maintain effective communication between the employee, workshop personnel, supervisors, controllers, and customers. Ensure compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, standards, and procedures. Maintain a safe working environment by verifying the correct operation of vehicle safety devices and adhering to all relevant safety requirements. Maintain and update technical knowledge through training, development opportunities, and continuous learning. Perform high-quality workmanship on material handling equipment and components, including the manufacture and repair of parts where required. Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, welding equipment, and other relevant machinery safely and efficiently. Carry out all work in accordance with required industry standards and technical specifications. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Education, Training and Experience The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education, training, and experience required for this position: Matric / Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification. Qualified Welder, Turner, Machinist, Fitter, or Boilermaker with a minimum of five years' relevant working experience, preferably involving forklifts or similar material handling equipment. Strong work ethic with a reputation for honesty, reliability, dedication, and pride in the quality of work performed. Well-developed prioritisation, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with a strong sense of urgency. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels. Strong commitment to service excellence, attention to detail, accuracy, and quality workmanship. Ability to communicate fluently and confidently in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring tasks are completed accurately and within required timeframes. Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to use initiative. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage demanding workloads. Sound understanding of workplace safety measures, procedures, and precautions. Ability to interpret and apply technical information accurately. Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, operation manuals, and manufacturers' specifications. Ability to identify and correctly use relevant specialised tools and equipment. Willingness and ability to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies, equipment, and models. Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute positively to the working environment. Good time-management skills, with the ability to work according to schedules and complete assigned tasks within required deadlines. Must be physically capable of performing the duties associated with the role, including carrying, lifting, and moving heavy objects; standing or sitting for extended periods; and bending, stretching, twisting, and reaching as required. Must be willing and able to work overtime and perform standby duties when operational or client requirements demand. Must maintain a professional and responsible approach to work, with the ability to meet the physical and operational demands of the position. Required Certificates, Licences and Registrations Relevant Trade Test Certificate (Machinist, Welder, Fitter, Turner, or Boilermaker).
