Engineering Manager EPCM and Mining Projects

  • A leading engineering consultancy based in Centurion, Gauteng is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager EPCM and Mining Projects to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing the engineering function across large-scale mining and mineral processing EPCM projects.
  • The role will oversee engineering studies, detailed design, procurement support, construction, commissioning and project delivery while ensuring engineering excellence, compliance with statutory requirements, and the successful execution of projects within scope, budget and schedule. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, exceptional leadership capabilities and extensive experience delivering capital projects within the mining industry.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in mining, EPCM or heavy industrial engineering projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree BEng/BSc in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer Pr. Eng. is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams on large-scale mining capital projects.
  • Proven experience managing engineering activities throughout the full EPCM project lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of concept studies, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • Experience within mining, mineral processing plants, concentrators, smelters, bulk material handling or associated infrastructure projects.
  • Sound understanding of engineering design principles, project management methodologies, South African engineering standards and statutory requirements.
  • Experience managing engineering consultants, contractors, vendors and external stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing engineering budgets, project scope, schedules and project risks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software such as MS Project or Primavera P6.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and mining operations when required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams across mining and mineral processing EPCM projects.
  • Provide overall engineering leadership from project initiation through concept studies, feasibility, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and project handover.
  • Manage engineering resources, project priorities and technical deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
  • Coordinate engineering activities across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, process, piping and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with client specifications and statutory requirements.
  • Manage engineering consultants, contractors, vendors and service providers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor engineering progress, identify technical risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Lead engineering design reviews, HAZOP studies, constructability reviews and value engineering initiatives.
  • Support procurement through technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews and equipment selection.
  • Provide technical leadership during construction, commissioning, plant start-up and operational handover.
  • Develop engineering execution plans, engineering schedules and resource plans aligned with project objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality management systems.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, project teams and operational stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop engineering personnel while fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and present engineering reports, project progress updates and executive-level presentations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes, project delivery and overall business performance.
  • Ensure all engineering activities align with company governance requirements, industry best practices and client expectations.
