- To gain practical workplace experience in engineering draughting and technical documentation while supporting technical specialists with Radio and TV system flows, circuit diagrams, sketches, mechanical drawings, layouts and related documentation. The internship will provide an opportunity to apply academic knowledge, develop 2-D Computer-Aided Design CAD skills, and gain practical exposure to engineering and broadcasting processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist technical specialists with the preparation of Radio and TV system flows, circuit diagrams, sketches, mechanical drawings, layouts and technical drawings.
- Interpret engineering sketches, technical instructions and stakeholder requirements and translate them into accurate technical drawings.
- Assist with producing accurate, clear and appropriately scaled drawings.
- Assist with preparing mechanical drawings suitable for workshop manufacture.
- Complete assigned drawings and documentation within agreed timeframes.
- Assist with the preparation of specialised labels for wiring, cabling, equipment and locations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of drawings, correspondence and technical documentation.
- Develop practical proficiency in 2-D CAD systems.
- Assist with maintaining and updating SABC building floor plans and technical layouts.
- Gain practical exposure to broadcasting engineering processes and operational procedures.
- Adhere to organisational, engineering, safety and draughting standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant degree, diploma or certificate in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Draughting or
- Draughting qualification or relevant tertiary-level draughting coursework.
- Basic knowledge or exposure to 2-D CAD.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technical draughting and engineering documentation skills.
Knowledge and Skills
- 2-D Computer-Aided Draughting CAD.
- Technical drawing and drawing to scale.
- Interpretation of engineering sketches and technical specifications.
- Building floor plans and technical layouts.
- Engineering and draughting standards.
- Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, acoustics, ergonomics and aesthetic concepts.
- Flow diagrams and technical documentation.
- Document control and drawing revisions.
- Good communication, teamwork, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
