Minimum Requirements

• BEng Civil Engineering Essential/Minimum or
• BSc Civil Engineering Essential/Minimum or
• B Tech Civil Engineering Essential/Minimum
• Certificate Safety Management Recommended/Desirable
• Diploma Project Management Recommended/Desirable
• Certificate First Line Management Recommended/Desirable
• Minimum of 5 years' operational experience in Civil Design and Maintenance; Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment; Procurement, Project Engineering, Contract, Project Management Essential/Minimum
• Psychometric Assessment Essential/MinimumTo be conducted by Exxaro
• Certificate of Fitness Essential/MinimumTo be conducted by Exxaro
• Engineering Council of SA Candidate Recommended/Desirable
• Strong knowledge of South African civil engineering standards, codes, and regulations, especially those pertaining to coal mining operations.
• Demonstrated expertise in design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, and related civil works.
• Sound understanding of environmental, health, and safety legislation applicable to the Mpumalanga region and South African mining industry.
• Proficient in the use of civil engineering design software and tools for drafting, modelling, and cost estimation.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risks and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide mentorship to junior staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and oversee construction and maintenance of civil engineering projects within the Matla Coal business unit, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
• Conduct site inspections and evaluate project progress to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental regulations applicable in Mpumalanga and South Africa.
• Prepare detailed engineering plans, drawings, and cost estimates for infrastructure projects including roads, drainage systems, and related civil works.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, contractors, and other engineers to ensure smooth execution and successful delivery of projects on contract basis.
• Identify potential engineering challenges and develop effective solutions to mitigate risks and enhance project outcomes.
• Monitor and control project budgets and timelines to optimize resource utilisation and meet contractual obligations.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and environmental regulations, including health and safety standards specific to the coal mining industry and the Mpumalanga region.
• Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and documentation required for project approvals and audits.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff and contractors to promote skills development and professional growth within the team.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in civil engineering technologies and practices to continuously improve project delivery and operational efficiency.
