Employment Opportunity: Trainee Laboratory Technician (Microbiology)

Position: Laboratory Technician (Microbiology)

Location: Durban

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Microbiologist to join our team. This position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic laboratory environment.

Graduates with qualifications in Microbiology, Food Technology, Food Science, Life Sciences, Biochemistry , or a related field are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and investigative microbiological testing and analysis. • Prepare, sterilise, and maintain laboratory media, reagents, and equipment. • Conduct microbial culturing, identification, and enumeration. • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in compliance with applicable regulatory and quality standards. • Follow laboratory safety protocols and quality control procedures. • Assist with method validation, verification, and continuous improvement initiatives. • Ensure laboratory activities are performed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Degree or Diploma from a local University or recognised tertiary institution in Microbiology, Food Technology, Food Science, Life Sciences, Biochemistry , or a related scientific discipline. • Practical laboratory training and exposure to microbiological techniques. • Knowledge of aseptic techniques and laboratory safety standards. • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Attributes

• Recent graduates or 1 to 3 years industrial laboratory experience. • Exposure to microbiological testing, food microbiology, environmental microbiology, or a related laboratory discipline. • Familiarity with quality management systems and ISO standards . • Good organisational and record-keeping skills. • A willingness to learn and develop professionally within a laboratory environment. • Must currently reside in Durban or the immediate surrounds . • Must have own reliable transport .
