REQUIREMENTS
- Related proof / documentation must accompany application
- 3+ years of municipal electrical experience.
- National Diploma/BTech Electrical Engineering
- ECSA registration as Candidate Engineering Technician
- Proficient in two or three official languages of the Western Cape
PROJECT PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE Purpose:
- To strengthen municipal technical capacity to implement energy resilience initiatives and improve sustainability of electrical services.
Objectives
- Provide dedicated technical support for MER and ESMAP projects
- Reduce energy losses and improve network reliability through infrastructure assessment
- Implement NMD management and load control at Calitzdorp
- Develop and manage pipeline of energy efficiency projects
- Ensure compliance with MER grant conditions, reporting and TPA requirements.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS The Technician will be responsible for: Network Operations & Maintenance
- Conduct condition assessment of MV/LV network, identify ring feed gaps, undersized conductors
- Update asset register and GIS data
- Supervise maintenance teams and theft replacement programmes
Energy Resilience Projects
- Lead implementations of: Solar PV on municipal buildings, LED streetlight audit and replacement, VSD installation at WTW,
- Mini grids at Ladismith and Calitzdorp intake points
- Prepare technical specs, tender inputs and site supervision.
NMD and Energy Management
- Monitor NMD at Calitzdorp and Ladismith bulk points
- Implement load management, power factor correction, and peak lopping solutions
- Liaise with Eskom on NMD optimization.
Planning and Compliance
- Assist with development of Electricity Master Plan, Energy Management Plan
- Ensure NRS, SANS 10142, OHS Act compliance
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and close-out reports for DLG.
