Penbro Kelnick is seeking a practical and passionate engineer who enjoys turning customer needs and technical problems into safe, manufacturable products and complete electrical systems.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This role is approximately 80% electrical systems integration and 20% magnetics. The successful candidate will own assigned designs and products from requirements capture through validation, manufacturing release, commissioning and support, with final design approval by the Product Development Manager. The position has no direct reports but coordinates multidisciplinary project contributors.
Duties & Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop electrical architectures, single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring and interconnection diagrams, calculations and specifications.
- Integrate electronic PC boards, power electronics, magnetics, resistors, protection, instrumentation and mechanical assemblies into complete products.
- Plan and perform factory integration, verification, validation, high-current testing and high-power testing with controlled results and corrective actions.
- Prepare manufacturing data packs, BOMs, work instructions and test instructions, and support prototype and production builds.
- Commission and fault-find systems at customer sites and participate in supplier technical reviews and audits.
- Develop towards full ownership of transformer and inductor products and their related manufacturing processes.
PRODUCT AND PRACTICAL EXPOSURE
The engineer will work with products and installations operating at 1 000 V and 3 300 V, including high-current applications in excess of 1 000 A and power levels from kilowatts to megawatts. Product exposure includes industrial DC systems and battery chargers, UPS and power-conversion systems, railway electrical and auxiliary systems, load banks, braking choppers, resistor systems, and custom electrical control and power cabinets. Normal work includes office, factory, laboratory and operational-site activities, with travel when required.

WHAT YOU BRING
- A National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- At least five years of relevant experience in electrical system design, systems integration, manufacturing support, testing and fault-finding.
- Proven ability to take engineering work from requirements through design, testing and manufacturing or site implementation.
- Sound knowledge of protection, isolation, earthing, component selection, control interfaces and safe electrical working practices.
- Proven work experience with products and installations operating at 1 000 V and 3 300 V is advantageous.
- Transformer or inductor design and manufacturing knowledge is advantageous but may be developed after appointment.
