- Develop electrical designs for HV and MV substations and associated infrastructure.
- Produce and review single-line diagrams, schematics, protection and control drawings .
- Perform electrical engineering calculations and equipment sizing.
- Develop specifications and technical schedules for transformers, switchgear, CTs, VTs, protection equipment and other substation equipment.
- Undertake substation layouts, equipment arrangements and cable schedules .
- Assist with protection and control system design and integration.
- Perform electrical studies and calculations where required, including fault-level, load-flow and protection-related studies.
- Prepare technical reports, design documentation and engineering deliverables.
- Review drawings, calculations and technical documentation produced by other engineers and designers.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Provide technical support during procurement, construction, testing and commissioning.
- Conduct site inspections and support troubleshooting and technical investigations.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable South African and international electrical standards and project specifications.
- Contribute to project planning, technical proposals and engineering estimates where required.
Minimum Requirements
- BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical Engineering .
- Professional registration with ECSA or progress toward professional registration will be advantageous.
- 38 years' relevant electrical engineering experience , preferably within substation, transmission, distribution or power infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in substation electrical design .
- Good understanding of HV/MV electrical systems, protection, switchgear and transformers.
- Experience producing and interpreting electrical engineering drawings and documentation.
- Knowledge of relevant standards, codes and utility requirements.
- Experience with electrical design and engineering software.
- Strong technical report-writing and documentation skills.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project and client sites when required.
