Job Title: Electrical Engineer Start Date: 2026-08-17 - 2026-09-16 Vacancy Type: Permanent DUR000453 Sectors: Engineering and Technical Location: KwaZulu-Natal , Westmead Salary: (Market related, Negotiable) Brief: electrical engineer|electrical technologist|generator|mv|power system|protection|turbine A specialist power generation engineering company based in Durban is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join its team. The company specialises in the supply, maintenance and project management of power generation systems and associated equipment, with a strong focus on clients within the sugar industry. This is a hands-on engineering role covering the full project lifecycle, from tendering and system design through to installation, testing and commissioning. The successful candidate will also provide specialist support in power generation control and protection systems. The position involves regular travel to client sites throughout South Africa and other African countries, particularly during the busy period from January to May. Site assignments are generally for a maximum of two weeks at a time. Detail: Key Responsibilities: Prepare technical tenders and proposals. Design and draft electrical systems and engineering schematics. Manage electrical and power generation projects from planning through to completion. Oversee and participate in electrical installations. Carry out testing and commissioning of systems and equipment. Provide specialist technical support relating to generator control and protection systems . Work with governing and excitation systems . Work with generator and MV protection relays . Support MV switchgear retrofit installations . Liaise with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders. Coordinate resources and project teams as required. Travel to project and client sites in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa. Minimum Requirements: BSc Electrical Engineering or BTech Electrical Engineering – Heavy Current. Minimum of 4 years' post-qualification experience in power generation control, electrical protection or a closely related environment. Experience with generator or MV protection relays . Knowledge of governing and excitation systems . Experience with MV switchgear , including retrofit installations. Ability to read, interpret and design electrical engineering schematics. Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office. Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving ability. Good written and verbal communication skills. Sound judgement and decision-making ability. Ability to work independently while also coordinating effectively with project teams. Willingness and ability to travel regularly to sites in South Africa and Africa . Advantageous: ECSA registration. Valid Wireman's Licence / registration with knowledge of the applicable SANS/SABS 10142 requirements. Experience using MS Project. Previous experience within the sugar industry. Broader experience with turbine-generator or industrial power-generation systems. This position offers an Electrical Engineer the opportunity to gain extensive practical exposure to power generation, generator controls, protection systems, MV equipment and commissioning, while working on industrial projects across South Africa and Africa.
