Electrical Design Engineer

Our client is a well-established South African engineering company with over 30 years of experience delivering Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) turnkey projects across the mining, water treatment, food & beverage, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and power generation sectors.

Their multidisciplinary team delivers projects from concept and detailed design through procurement, construction, commissioning and long-term support.

They are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their engineering team and play a key role in the design and execution of industrial electrical and automation projects. Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Design MV and LV electrical distribution systems.

• Produce detailed electrical engineering designs and project documentation.

• Develop single-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams.

• Design Motor Control Centres (MCCs), distribution boards and control panels.

• Prepare cable schedules, termination drawings and equipment layouts.

• Specify electrical equipment and prepare technical documentation for procurement.

• Perform electrical load calculations, cable sizing and protection coordination.

• Design and integrate industrial control systems.

• Work closely with PLC, SCADA and Automation Engineers during project execution.

• Provide engineering support during manufacturing, installation and commissioning.

• Assist with FAT, SAT and commissioning activities.

• Ensure designs comply with relevant South African standards and client specifications.

• Liaise directly with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical Engineering.

• Minimum 5 years' experience in industrial electrical design.

• Experience within industrial plants, mining, manufacturing, water treatment, power generation or process industries.

• Strong knowledge of:

• MV & LV Distribution

• Motor Control Centres (MCCs)

• Power Distribution Systems

• Industrial Control Systems

• Instrumentation

• Experience producing electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical or similar software.

• Knowledge of SANS and IEC electrical standards.

• Experience preparing engineering documentation for construction and commissioning.

Advantageous Experience

• PLC and SCADA systems.

• Industrial automation projects.

• Harmonic mitigation and power quality studies.

• ETAP, DIgSILENT, EPLAN or similar electrical design software.

• Professional registration with ECSA or working towards registration.

• Site commissioning experience.
