Electrical BIM Modeller - Building Services - CT

Introduction

An established multidisciplinary consulting engineering practice is seeking an experienced Electrical BIM Modeller to join its Cape Town team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, coordinated electrical building-services models and drawings using Revit. This role requires practical experience working within a consulting engineering or building-services environment.

The ideal candidate is technically capable, detail-oriented and comfortable taking responsibility for the quality of electrical BIM deliverables. You should understand more than simply how to operate Revit—you must be able to interpret engineering information and translate it into accurate, practical and coordinated electrical models.

Please note: This is an electrical building-services BIM position. Candidates with experience limited to architectural modelling, mechanical modelling, general CAD work, graphic design or electrical installation work without Revit modelling experience will not be suitable.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop detailed electrical building-services models and drawings using Revit.

• Produce layouts for lighting, emergency lighting, small power, cable containment, earthing and lightning-protection systems.

• Model electrical distribution equipment, including distribution boards, transformers, generators and associated infrastructure.

• Prepare electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, equipment layouts and installation details.

• Convert engineering concepts, sketches and mark-ups into accurate technical drawings and BIM models.

• Coordinate electrical services with architectural, structural, mechanical, fire and other building-services disciplines.

• Identify and resolve service clashes using Revit and BIM coordination processes.

• Maintain accurate model information, drawing registers and revision control.

• Ensure drawings comply with company standards, project BIM requirements and relevant South African regulations.

• Prepare coordinated tender, construction and as-built documentation.

• Create and manage Revit families, templates, schedules and shared parameters where required.

• Attend internal design and coordination meetings.

• Liaise closely with engineers, technicians and other BIM team members.

• Incorporate site information and approved design changes into models and drawings.

• Complete projects accurately and within agreed deadlines.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Relevant draughting, electrical engineering or BIM qualification.

• Proven experience as an Electrical BIM Modeller, Electrical Revit Modeller or Electrical Draughtsperson.

• Practical experience within a consulting engineering or building-services environment.

• Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Revit is essential.

• Experience producing electrical layouts and coordinated construction drawings.

• Understanding of electrical building services, including lighting, small power, distribution and cable containment.

• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings.

• Understanding of BIM coordination, model management and clash detection.

• Good knowledge of drawing standards, document control and revision procedures.

• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

• Experience using AutoCAD, Navisworks and BIM 360/Autodesk Construction Cloud.

• Experience developing Revit families and maintaining BIM libraries.

• Knowledge of relevant SANS standards and electrical building regulations.

• Experience working on commercial, residential, retail, hospitality or large-scale building projects.

• Experience producing coordinated as-built models and drawings.

• Familiarity with BIM Execution Plans, levels of development and model-quality procedures.
