Introduction

To safely and responsibly drive, collect, deliver and move company or client vehicles while ensuring that all vehicles are handled professionally, inspected correctly, and delivered in the required condition and within agreed timelines.

The Driver / CPO is responsible for maintaining accurate vehicle documentation, reporting damages or defects, and providing professional service when interacting with clients, suppliers, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Vehicle Collection & Delivery

  • Collect and deliver vehicles according to daily instructions and operational schedules.
  • Ensure vehicles are delivered to the correct location and authorised person.
  • Confirm collection and delivery details before departing.
  • Obtain all required signatures, handover documentation, and proof of delivery.
  • Immediately communicate any delays, changes, or operational challenges to the Fleet Controller or Supervisor.

2. Vehicle Inspections

  • Conduct a thorough vehicle inspection before taking possession of any vehicle.
  • Record existing scratches, dents, damages, tyre condition, and other visible defects.
  • Take photographs where required in accordance with company procedures.
  • Check and record fuel levels and vehicle mileage at collection and delivery.
  • Immediately report any new damage, warning lights, mechanical concerns, or defects.
  • Ensure that no vehicle is accepted or handed over without the required inspection process being completed.

3. Driving & Vehicle Care

  • Drive all vehicles safely, responsibly, and in accordance with applicable road traffic legislation.
  • Comply with all South African road traffic laws and company driving policies and procedures.
  • Do not speed, drive recklessly, or use a cellphone while driving unless legally permitted and safely operated.
  • Ensure vehicles are not used for personal or unauthorised purposes.
  • Safeguard vehicle keys, fuel cards, documents, and other company or client property.
  • Keep vehicles reasonably clean and presentable while in your possession.
  • Never allow an unauthorised person to drive a company or client vehicle.

4. Administration & CPO Responsibilities

  • Complete all vehicle movement, collection, inspection, and delivery documentation accurately and timeously.
  • Maintain accurate records of kilometres travelled.
  • Record fuel levels and fuel transactions where applicable.
  • Ensure vehicle keys and documentation are correctly controlled, secured, and handed over.
  • Report fines, accidents, damages, or other incidents immediately.
  • Ensure licence discs and other required vehicle documentation are present and valid.
  • Assist with vehicle movements for servicing, repairs, inspections, licensing, and other operational requirements.
  • Provide accurate and timely updates regarding the status and location of vehicles.

5. Client Service & Professional Conduct

  • Represent the company professionally when collecting or delivering vehicles.
  • Treat all client and company vehicles with care and respect.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, suppliers, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Protect confidential client and company information.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid South African driver's licence appropriate to the class of vehicle being operated.
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) where required by the role or operation.
  • Previous professional driving, vehicle collection, delivery, or fleet experience will be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of South African road regulations and safe driving practices.
  • Ability to drive both manual and automatic vehicles.
  • Basic vehicle knowledge and the ability to identify obvious defects, damages, and warning indicators.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to complete documentation accurately.
  • Reliable, punctual, responsible, and trustworthy.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when operationally required.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 / Matric Certificate preferred.
  • Valid South African Driver's Licence , appropriate for the class of vehicle required.
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) where required by the operational role.
  • Basic understanding of South African road traffic laws and regulations .
  • Ability to drive both manual and automatic vehicles .
  • Basic vehicle knowledge, including the ability to identify visible damage, tyre defects, warning lights, and general vehicle concerns.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years' driving experience with a valid driver's licence.
  • 1–2 years' experience in professional driving, vehicle collection and delivery, fleet operations, logistics, or a similar environment will be advantageous.
  • Experience conducting vehicle inspections and completing vehicle condition reports will be advantageous.
  • Experience handling client or company vehicles and completing collection, delivery, and handover documentation will be advantageous.
  • Experience in customer or client-facing environments will be beneficial.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within a fleet management, vehicle rental, automotive, logistics, dealership, or transport environment .
  • Experience using vehicle inspection applications or digital reporting systems.
  • Experience managing vehicle keys, fuel cards, and vehicle documentation.
  • A proven safe driving record with minimal traffic violations or accidents.

IMPORTANT ACCOUNTABILITY

The Driver / CPO takes responsibility for the vehicle from the time it is formally handed over to them until it is formally delivered or handed back to the authorised person.

Any accident, damage, mechanical problem, warning light, traffic fine, lost key, missing documentation, or other incident must be reported immediately to the relevant Fleet Controller or Supervisor.

Failure to comply with vehicle handling procedures, reporting requirements, company policies, or lawful operational instructions may result in appropriate corrective or disciplinary action in accordance with company policy and applicable legislation.
